Turn Stencil to Mask?

HI all! I’m trying to do a little detailing on my character “Crazy Andre” and I want to add some numbers to his jersey. I made an alpha from Photoshop that will work. I converted it into a stencil to keep the crispness, and I was wondering if there is a way to convert the stencil into a mask. I want to do this so its a seperate ZTool so I can assign it a different material.

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but I think it would be an awesome feature! Something like “convert stencil to mask.”

not in one click which i wish was possible, but cannedmushrooms shows a way here:

uggh

uggh…nevermind. didn’t work. it would be a nice feature though. my thing is, i’d like to do the whole “drag on a mask” without having to do it outside the model, and not having it reflect on the back. the stencils are still a bit of a mystery to me.

Use the DRAG RECTANGLE stroke on your brush to “drag” out the shape of the alpha mask inside your model. If the other side of your model gets masked then just ‘erase’ it by using the freehand stroke.
