Tucho's Sketchbook

looks pretty nice. Imo the texture on the arms could improve, to me the highlighted areas look too white and unnatural. I guess you used an occlusion map but personally I like to bake in some more lighting/bump details into the texture.

I also think the leather diffuse could improve a bit. I’m not the best texture artist but I think the highlights/shadows in the diffuse are too strong, I think you want the specular map to handle more of the highlights for you, maybe make the specular map brighter and tone down the diffuse a bit, it looks too light/white to me in the highligts, and the shadows are too strong. I would select the white areas in the leather diffuse and add some yellow or other color overlay. I guess for a game character though having those strong shadows is preferable depending on the size of the character in-game, what I think would look nice is if you softened the edges and bleed the shadows out a bit, and maybe add some purple or blue to the shadow color. It’s mostly the shoulder area that I’m referring to as it stands out to me.

What you could also do to make those shoulder straps pop out a bit more naturally is take the normal map around the shoulders, copy it, and overlay it at like 50% oppacity or something, strengthening the normal map and having it handle the shadows more. Personally I also like to take the normal map, turn it into a grey scale, and overlay that over the diffuse a little bit as well.

Thanks for your comments nero5150, I have to fix the specular, the white areas especially in U3 are because the specular, I’ll work a bit more in the diffuse too.

Here is a new character, Is a ultra low poly golem, I made it in Zbrush and after I bake the detail on 512 diffuse texture,

There’s a butt crack joke just waiting to happen here…

There’s a butt crack joke just waiting to happen here…
Haha, I didn’t think about that when I placed the crack there :stuck_out_tongue:

I had some free time last days and I worked a bit on the warlock pose, here is the first image of this character posed… with a crappy skinning, I have to improve it a lot, but skinning is not one of my better skills :S

By the way, the render is actually a real time render with Xoliul Shader, I only use photoshop to place the background

<table class=“fieldset” border=“0” cellpadding=“0” cellspacing=“1” width=“100%”><tbody><tr><td>walock_posed_WIP_thum.jpg</td><td align=“right”> <input name=“Place image” value=“Place this image in your post” onclick=“zb_insimg(‘196008’,‘walock_posed_WIP.jpg’,1,0); window.close()” type=“button”> </td></tr></tbody></table>

Hi people, finally I had some free time to finish my warlock and compose the final scene.
I “render” the character in realtime with Xoliul shader (thanks to Laurens Corijn for this awesome dx shader :)) and I rendered environment with final render (because realtime shaders have some probles with alpha ordering). After I compose the final picture in photoshop and add a bit of DoF using the Z depth map.

Great final result.
Whenever i see people’s wires i find that i’m making mine way too complex and that less would do the job just as well.
Think i like the illumination on the one with the hood best. More ominous.

Ole! Finally you finished him!!! Now it´s time for another one, dude!
Nice work!

Great work Tucho!! Congrats! What’s your next project going to be?

Thanks for your comments guys, I’m glad you like it :).

I haven’t decided what be my next character yet, I hope my work don’t let me to start a new one for a while :stuck_out_tongue:

Just an update:

How do you get the models in to PsHome?

It was a job for a client of mine, these models are sold on PS home. I made just models and textures, other artist made the rigging and export them to the engine.

Hi there, here you can see some pictures of a new project wich I’m working on, project is still in its very early stages, so I don’t want to tell many details about it at the moment. If everything going to all right I’ll keep posting updates here.

Here you can see the first animation… I’m not a good animator but I hope to can make animations for this project, most of them will be just cycles so it musn’t be too difficult.
