troubles with poser and morphs, need help !!!

hello all

I have been trying my hand with poser morph targets. everything runs smoothly, except the final stage :frowning:
My morphed head always move on the z-axis, and i really dont know why. here is a picture :

here is what i am doing :

  • in poser i select the p4 man
  • i export the head only to obj.
  • i load the exported head in zbrush
  • i modify it
  • i export it as quad obj
  • i go back in poser
  • i double click on the head, then load the morphed head
  • i use the new morph slider => it is a this point that my head move on the z-axis, i tried plenty of things but its always doing this.

Another question (might be related), why are my polymesh tools always showing backward on the tool window or in the load tool window : i always see the model from back. Is there a way to correct this?

Hi Kaluman,
Are you selecting"As Morph Target[no world transformation"],from the .obj export box?
If not,you need to select it,then once the file is exported, close poser.
This next part only concerns you if you’re using a mac, open your poser folder, find you’re exported .obj, drag it to the fix.obj type icon on you’re desktop.
If you don’t have this function, you can download it on this site, just do a search for fix.objtype.
This last part{again,Mac only,} is very important,if you don’t do this,you won’t be able to paint on you’re object with texturemaster.If you’re on a PC i believe it’s okay.
Hope this helps.
Wade

hey wadeo

thanks for answering

“Are you selecting"As Morph Target[no world transformation”],from the .obj export box?"

thats the weird part, it doesnt ask me for this. I have poser 4 and i run it on a pc.

you can try asking over here http://www.renderosity.com
they specialize in poser just go to the top Link to Poser
or go to the poser main site

don’t know nothing about poser, but could be that in import/export proccess the origin coords placement data is lost, or modified.

I mean, the 0,0,0 origin of the head and the body are not kept in the good relation.

perhaps
well, maybe you could try to export the full body from Poser, import in Zbrush, modify, make the cut in poser(later on, after reimported in Poser), if that software allows it.

A Poser expert could tell you.

Put the model in a wire frame and chose
(windows : Joint Editor.
make sure the Red cross hair is align at the pivite point which would be his neck and the top green cross hair at the top.
his alignment is probley off.
try this http://www.southerngfx.co.uk/demo/posertutorial/morphtargets.htm

When you export an object from Poser, after you choose the pieces that you want to export from the Hierarchy, it should have a dialogue box asking you which export options you want to use (such as welding, part names, etc.). That is where the “As Morph Target (no world trasformations)” option is. I use Poser 4, and get that dialogue.

The second place where you could be having trouble lies in the modeling that you do on the object. Be very, very careful not to change any place where your object connects to another one – in this case, where the head connects to the neck. If you do change that, then you will get this kind of effect because the morph moves the base of the head and Poser has to connect the top of the neck to it, still.

With most facial morphs, you will also find that you need to move the eyes manually after you’ve applied the morph. That’s because the morph moves the sockets and the eyes don’t know to follow along.

i am not getting that dialogue box aurick, i think all my troubles are coming from that, but i have no ideas why i dont have it.
I checked all over

i know its not a problem related to the modeling part, otherwise it wouldnt load as a morphtarget in poser.
I really wonder where this dialogue box went?

Have you updated Poser with the latest patch? Perhaps that is the difference? Visit Curious Labs and get the patch if not.

Curious Labs Poser 4 update

Kaluman, I do not know why your dialog did not pop up, but I have a fix for you, not a perfect one, but it will work.

  1. bring in your target figure, p4male, and make sure he is zerod out (use the joint edit pallett).
  2. import your morphed head, but not as a morph, import the .obj as a prop.
If my guess is right, the .obj will be right in front of the figure’s head. Use the dials to move the prop till it lines up with the figure’s head. Do not try to do this by dragging, it is too delicate, you must use the dials.
  3. export the prop, give it a new name
  4. delete the prop from your scene, select the head of your figure, and load your new morph.

I know this is not perfect, but it has worked for me in the past when I have accidentally made a morph with “world” properties

i bow to you lady pam !!!

you just gave us a very powerful trick here
 :+1: :+1: :+1:

I still need to figure out some texturing troubles :stuck_out_tongue:

Which male are you using P3, P4, Michael 1 or Michael 2?

i have tried with the p4 character.

I started first with your tutorial southern  everything was running fine until i dicovered that the dialogue box was missing .

I managed to do it with pam great tip.

your sniper picture rocks southern :stuck_out_tongue: i love the texturing

my first poser character :stuck_out_tongue: (thanks pam)

What was your idea about the characters southern ? I still need to find out how to make a regular morph

definitely taking good shape
keep us posted
looks like you are getting all yer earlier probs worked out
 :+1:

cool! He is looking good! Glad my little cheat/fix worked for ya

If this is still a problem let me know.

G

I am still not able to do regular morphs southern, i found out that i had this problem only on certain models. P2 man works find for example, but all the recent ones does the same thing. I have not been able to get that dialog box back

Version 1.55b has some changes to the way that ZBrush deals with importing and exporting meshes, and this will affect morph target creators.

Please see this thread for more info.

Kaluman,
Try using Compose by: John R. Wind.

This should fix your problem
 It works for me!
Take care,
