Trouble with Kurv Studios Tutorial.

example.jpg I am very new to zbrush and was following a tutorial on head modeling with zspheres from this site. What i am having trouble with is the detailing with alphas. the tutor seems to just drag is cursor around drawing strokes with it. now when i do so it doesnt produce a desirable effect. Is this because i am using a mouse? or am i supposed to point and click repeatedly?

-the attached image shows the difference in strokes. the number 1 line is a casual stroke. the number 2 line is a rather fast stroke. and the number 3 line is just point and click repeatedly.

Would using a tablet help or are there some adjustments i can make? thanks for any help.

hey there, ive found when using alphas you need to lower the intensity down a tad and just literally stamp the alpha around - thats what he did on the dvd. you dont wanna draw a stroke - just make an instance of the alpha. the only difference with using a tablet is that you have finer control over the depth of the alpha, so just lightly tap around and you should be fine.

hope that helps

oh and it might help to play with the alpha settings in the menu bar - play with the “alpha adjust” graph a bit

Set Stroke to DragRect and you should be OK.

And have an eye on the intensity sliders. What you wish to do is to place ‘decals’ with the drag rect brush and not ‘smear’ the alpha around.
