hi, i really like your take on this and the base adds a nice tie in to the whole peice. you should be proud of this, its very cool! if anyone hasnt welcomed you to the fourms yet then welcome! where can i find the rest of your demo reel =), this is very good work!

indeed very nice model…

Wow! That’s really great, love the base as well, would like to know how you did the grass. My only suggestion is to dirty him up a bit with mud or blood.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Here is some shots of my elephant an older piece that I thought still deserved a place on my reel.

j.fernwright, I agree about the mud and blood - he does need that extra touch - as for the grass, it was a simple matter of bringing in a photo texture into zbrush and sculpting out the more obvious details, like rocks, cracks etc. This is more obvious on the elephant pics. With the grass, I turned the textured into a greyscaled image and comibed it with the sculpted displacement map in photoshop and then displaced it in Maya with renderman for maya. It looks great from this distance, but really close up doesn’t hold as well. The elephant base was sculpted using the photo as reference and also as a stencil.

Wow this is such a great Model!
cant wait to see the poly lay out too

beautyfull work.

very nice models … i support the idea of the mud and dirt … some blood could be cool too.

Thanks for the comments guys -

I will dirty up the trex and add some blood around his mouth tonight as well - which should hopefully give him that lived look.

Also I’ll try and get around to posting some wireframes of both him and the ellie soon for those that are interested.

Mike

nice! great likeness

I have done a first pass of some blood and dirt - Love to hear your thoughts.

wow! amazing skin work!
and great sculptures!

Hello. Great work.
The only constructive criticism I can offer is that maybe your specularity is too uniform? I feel like it is all kind of homogenously flat in terms of specularity. There should be some parts more shiny and reflective than others. Tongue, claws, maybe tips of scales where they are buffed by contact.
And maybe if there was one more level of detail, like a final high-res bump map to add a little texture into certain areas. I feel like it could be sharpened up a little in certain places. Maybe what is bothering me is that the eye and the ground seem to have a higher level of detail than most of the t-rex. Does that seem accurate?
Great modeling and sense of form/composition. A+

woo!so cool T-rex! the skin looks very good!
you also give me some inspirations,i think i’ll repaint my T-rex work:D
Keep up to do it!

a lot of work with textures here !
keep it up

damn, thats nice, animal only demo reel? great models, but lighting and material on the dino isnt as high quality as the model itself imo, washes out the colors.

Thanks for all the crtiques guys, really appreciate it.

Kaibosh, thanks for the constructive critisim mate, I have to say I totally agree with your comments. The spec on my rex, especially on that last render, has been bothering me a bit. I really need to sit down and put some more time into his spec maps. The idea of a specialised bump map has it’s merits to, I think I have been a little too reliant on displacement mapping of late.

PedramK, I actually have a sketch of my grandpa that I will post soon. I primarily consider myself a character/creature artist and have focused alot on animals in the past - but have several character driven pieces that I want to challenge myself with soon.

Alexleia, mate you honour me. Its works like yours that inspired me to enter this challenging field to start with.

Thanks again for your critiques, I will keep you updated until I finally let this one go…
