Transpose rig issues

Hi Guys, I’ve been having some issues with transpose master and rigging. Trying to pose my character but it’s proving rather difficult. It was originally a Dynamesh model, which I remeshed then polypainted. I went into Transpose master - zsphererig on - Tposemesh and built my rig. After going into Rigging and hitting Bind Mesh. I get these weird fold lines. Eveytime! What am I doing wrong?? I just want a smooth rig. I’m using Zbrush 2019. It’s also really slow and takes a few seconds for the limbs to mover after I pose it. Please help

Markus, that mesh is a bit higher resolution than one would generally choose to rig. High density meshes will perform poorly in rigging mode, and their surface will be easily distorted.

Traditionally, one would rig the low poly base of a tool with multiple subdivision levels. Transpose Master can be very useful if your tool has multiple subtools that you would like to pose the low poly versions of all those tools as one, and have the changes reflected through all the subtools at high resolution. Perhaps more importantly, it will let you transfer the rig you’ve already constructed there to the new mesh.

If your mesh currently does not have a low poly base with multiple subdivision levels, you can create them with a bit of work. Duplicate your mesh subtool, and ZRemesh it as desired. This will create a low poly version of the mesh with well distributed topology. You will lose detail when you reduce polygons, but that’s ok. Subdivide your new mesh up to sufficient subdivision level to hold the detail from the original, then project the detail (sculpting +polypaint) from the original mesh onto the duplicate. The procedure for transferring detail can be found here.

Take a run at it with a lower poly mesh, and see if that doesn’t clear up most of your issues. If you still have problems, it probably has to do with weighting issues in your rig and those will also be easier to work with on a lower poly mesh. If you have any more specific questions about anything I discussed here, please feel free to ask.

Thanks, I’ll keep this in mind for the next model
