Transpose Master explodes my mesh...help? Answered.

I have this character I’ve posed probably six times now. Every time I start over I get a different issue, but the one that always persists is that the shirt and vest of my guy explodes when transposing it back to the subtools.

  • There is no masking on my subtools OR the transpose mesh.
  • I noticed at first due to some polygroup finessing I did have creasing in the middle of the shirt/vest subtools but I got rid of that and now all creasing follows the subtool edges perfectly.
  • This problem doesn’t happen until I reshape the vest/shirt subtools. If I leave those alone while posing everything looks fine. But I have to pose them…so this isn’t a solution I can use.

Below is an image. The first guy is my transpose model, the second is what happens when I send the pose to the subtools, and the third is just the shirt and vest subtools in more detail. Does anybody know why this is happening and how to fix it?

THANKS!

HTH,

Thanks!!! You’re right, that is the problem. There are shared edges in the ears that must be causing the issue. However, I’m having trouble fixing it. If I GoZ the mesh back to Maya it tells me the topology has changed and explodes it even worse than before. How do I keep my high rez details and fix this problem?

  1. Duplicate the subtool so you have a copy in the same subtool list (press Tool>SubTool>Duplicate).
  2. Select the duplicate and delete all the subdivision levels. It doesn’t matter what level you are on.
  3. Import your new topology. Because there are no subdivision levels the new topo will completely replace the old.
  4. Subdivide the new subtool so it has the same number of levels as the original.
  5. Set both the new subtool and the original to their highest levels and make sure all the other subtools are turned off.
  6. With the new subtool selected, set the Tool>SubTool>Projection Shell to encase the original subtool, then press Tool>SubTool>ProjectAll.

The detail should be transferred to the new subtool. You may need to undo and adjust the settings to get the result you want. Also, if you store a morph target before using ProjectAll, you can use the Morph Brush to get rid of any imperfections.

HTH,
