Transpose gizmo out of whack

Hello
I’m having a strange problem where every time I enter transpose mode, the gizmo appears out of whack. This happens with all of my subtools. I can fix it by unlocking the gizmo and trying to rotate it back into place, but why would it appear with the wrong rotation/position by default?

Thanks

Hi @Ouranos

By “out of whack” do you mean the Gizmo manipulator has become rotated off the world axes?

This would happen if:

  1. You have rotated the active geometry from its original position.

  2. You have alt-clicked to reposition the manipulator on a surface that does not conform to the world axes. In this case it aligns to the surface normals.

  3. You have unlocked the manipulator, and repositioned it out of alignment.

You can:

  1. Click the “Reset Mesh orientation” while the manipulator is locked to restore it to global alignment. If the mesh’s original position was aligned along these axes, it will be restored to this position.

  2. Unlock the manipultor lock Icon, and reset the position. This will reset the manipulator to the default axes, but will not affect the mesh position.

While you can always restore the manipulator to world alignment, you cannot restore the mesh’s rotation if the manipulator alignment was changed at any point after rotating that mesh.

If this does not describe your situation, you will have to illustrate the issue further.

Sorry for the late reply, somehow I didn’t get the notification for this response.

I think the issue might have been related to the fact that I was using an IMM brush? I was inserting spheres, and it might be that their axis is out of whack because of the way it aligns to the geometry I’m applying the IMM brush to?

Thanks for the tips!
