Transp in Subtools

Hi guys !
I’m really new here , and to zbrush too… I hope I’m writing in the right forum section and that my english makes some sense…

I’m trying to learn zbrush… it’s really awesome what you people can do with this application but… the interface it’s a little weird… at least at start…

For example, I’m trying to have reference planes with a texture on them, using the default imagPlaneX.ZTL, and to have a polyshpere as subtools.
I’m following a tutorial on a book, Introducing ZBrush by Eric Keller, but I can’t really understand how visibility toggle works for subtools…
I just want to have my polysphere transparent, so I enable the “Transp” toggle at the right of the canvas, but when I select the polysphere to model on, I have the reference planes transparent and vice versa…
so I can’t model the sphere while it’s tranpsarent…

Can anyone help me ?
… I’m working on a mac version, can this be the problem ? I did noticed many differences from the book I’m reading…

Thank you guys !

The MAC version changed a little but this thread will help you. Check out the top of the thread

Thank you Paul, it’s exatly what I was looking for…it really helped a lot.
I’m still not able to give different material to subtools, but this is another question…

thank you again

You have to do this

Select the Subtool
Select the Material you want it to have
Make sure “M” or MRGB is on
M is for Material only
MRGB is Material and color
Now go to the color palette and select Fill Object

That will do it

Paul

ehi, thank you… it works…

I really think that the mac version have strange behavior compared to the pc one…
To have the subtools with different material I have to do what you say and then select again a new material for the other subtool…
It seems like I have a sort of “auto-fillObject” 'cause when I change the meterial all the subtools by default take the new material. Does the pc version do the same ?

This is expected behavior and happens on the PC too.

By default a ztool/subtool will take on the active (or ‘selected’) material and so when you switch materials they will all change. This is deliberate so that you can quickly try different material on your model. To ‘fix’ a material for a particular subtool you need to fill it with the material in the way Paul describes.

For an easy way to fill subtools with different colors/materials try SubTool Master from the Download Centre.

It’s a little weird in my opinion, but I understand how it works now…
I’m going to donwload that plugin right now.
Thank you guys !
