Topology and polycount?

I hope this isn’t too silly a question…

If I have a model with over a million polys, if I re-topologyze the model with all the details, will the poly-count be lowered on the re-topologyzed model considerably? If so is that an effective way of doing so?

Keep in mind I am a TOTTAL noob! :smiley:

Yes, that is one reason for re-topologizing a mesh - done with care, you can save a lot of polygons. Ralf Stumpf gives an interesting and useful working method here:
