Tool naming confusion

Hi all,

this might be a stupid question:
I am a self taught zbrusher and there is something in the tool naming convention that still confuses me:
in the tool palette, as a name for each tool, instead of seeing the tool’s name you see the selected subtool’s name. which means that for the same tool, depending on what you had selected last, you see different names and icons.
(in the example bellow, I have two identical tools ‘femalehead1’ and ‘femalehead2’ but the second one appears as ‘eyes’ )

It doesn’t cause a problem, (well sometimes I have to go through the tools one by one) but mainly it seems counter intuitive to me that You cannot have a name for each tool and then name the subtools however you like. (like files in a folder).

Is there any specific reason for that which I’m missing?

Hi @Aris

The tool palette displays the name and icon for the active subtool. When saving the tool as a ZTL file, it defaults to the name of the topmost subtool. If you name the file something different, that topmost subtool will be renamed after the file. In this way if you are saving the DemoSoldier tool, you will always know that you are saving and loading the DemSoldier, but when you are working in the program, you will be able to see at a glance that the backpack, shirt, or vest is actively selected.

:slightly_smiling_face:

ok thanks!
(it still seems strange that you wouldn’t have a name to override all the subtools e.g. ‘soldier’ over 'backpack/body/boots/etc.) but it is what it is… Just wanted to make sure I’m not missing something
