Hello everyone!
New member here. Got my start into this awesome software first by way of Sculptris. I do a lot of VFX and 3DFX for short films. Originally I was using Blender 3D alot, especially for things like camera tracking and the like. But I just could never get organic models to look anywhere near to where I would like them to be. Enter Sculptris, this was such a huge relief as I was able to get that organic look I’ve been looking for. Something you can still do in Blender, but you have to take extra steps.
When I heard about Zbrush core and the pricing, I immediately jumped at the chance, I really couldn’t have opened my wallet any faster, as I understood what a big investment this could mean. I couldn’t afford full version, but dammit, if this paid ZCore version was going to be better than Sculptris, then I was going to invest the money on it. I wanted to delve into more realistic models and I was going to invest in it. So far I’ve been really happy with it, and it really makes me look forward to when I can afford the full version. Even as a Mass Comm student, the price seems a little steep, for now.
But one of the things that I noticed was missing on ZCore (at least that I’m aware of) is that there doesn’t seem to be any functionality that can help reduce, erase or control your poly count, a feature clearly present in Sculptris. I believe it was called Erase or something like that in Sculptris. I understand that ZBrush has a plugin called “Decimation Master” which sounds great, except that I don’t see it as being available for ZCore users.
So this being said, I’d like to ask other artists here if they have any tips they can give this budding artist, on how to reduce my poly count?
For my first test, I followed their head-making tutorial, and it looked better than anything I’ve done before. But I was surprised to see that it had a high 1.37 million polygon count and I’d like to reduce it significantly so my computer won’t bog down when I decide to make a a fully rigged and animated figure.
