Love the grunginess. It gives the image more soul, makes it less sterile.

These are fantastically awesome Joseph! Thank you for posting so much detailed info!

I’m curious about your PS workflow to create your finale image. Can you post a bit of a breakdown on what you are doing post Keyshot?

Thanks!

E

For today’s randomness here is the timelapse from the Combat Mech. (There is a Music-less version as well since I ran out of 80’s music that is Gema Friendly.)

I also got another Macro Pack completed: ZUtilities Macro Pack 02! Below is a breakdown of the Macros.

Overview of the features:

These Macros are free to use (please watch the installation video on how to install!) The *.zip file is linked below (The file can also be obtained on my Gumroad for free as well https://gumroad.com/piggyson. )

Hi Joseph amazing work and thanks for uploading these but I would like to know will there ever be ZClassroom step by step tutorials on how to create models in Zmodeler like models you have shown here rather than sped up timelapse videos? Dont get me wrong these timelapse videos are great but timelapse videos are so fast and are harder to follow compared to the ZClassroom’s tutorials. The Zmodeler webinar was quite helpful but I dont see many other tutorials online showing how to create models of that visual quality only in timelapse videos.

@–E--: I’ll see what I can do
@ICEMike: Thanks! I’ll be happy to upload the next one I record in realtime. It however ends up being ~2-3 hours of the same ZModeler actions over and over again

I usually end up using only a few of the ZModeler actions. [Poly-QMesh-Single Poly], [Poly-Extrude-Single Poly], [Edge-Insert-Single EdgeLoop], [Edge-Insert-Multiple EdgeLoops], occasionally [Point-Move-Infinite Depth], then a lot of [Edge-Crease-Edge] and [Edge-Crease-Edgeloop Complete] at the end.

Other non-ZModeler brushes items I use are the MaskPen Brush, Transpose Lines, The ClipCurve brush (for aligning unmasked edges), the SliceRect occasionally, then at the end the Standard Brush with an alpha applied. For the final processes I use Mirror and Weld, Mirror (if the mirror and weld is in the wrong direction), Auto Groups, and Group Split. Nothing too crazy.

I am planning on modeling another one of these mechs soon, so ill make sure to put up the full one

Thanks Joseph and thanks for letting me know about the actions also:)

A real-time would be great! BUT, if we’re making wishes here - I would REALLY love a real-time ā€˜mini-process tutorial’ of, say, just a mech head. Something short that demonstrates the various techniques, with a voice over that discusses your thought process. Definitely doesn’t need to be polished like your ZClassroom step-by-steps. I actually find that I learn more from ā€˜warts-and-all’ live demos, because you get to see the design dead ends and mistakes and how you can get around them.

This thread is pure gold! I would totally give you my money for a slowed down mech tutorial. Even sped up (and without dialouge) your videos seem to be more explanatory than most zmodeler tuts I see on the net. And I am also very interested in the environments you did as well. Please make a video/gumroad/whatever. I’m buying it!

Wow lot of good ideas actualized!
Really helpful and useful utility !:+1:

ChampagneCorpse thats a good idea I would also buy a gumroad tutorial of Josephs workflow if he ever releases one

Big thanks for all the useful and inspiring things you share : )

very nice one mate

Thanks all for the kind words and motivation to perhaps create a full GumRoad tutorial

Here is a quick one for today, Modeling was fast but I spent far to long tweaking the surface noises and breaking up the parts. (I recorded the session but it’s a mess so I am not going to edit this out out.) I also kept trying to add more color but it wasn’t working well (ended up looking too much like a quilt pattern.)

This guy really has a great sense of scale. The small piping/wire details work with the larger noise shapes. I’d be totally into a full Gumroad tutorial!

Back to another quick planet environment today  Was messing with Dan Fessler’s HD Index Painting http://danfessler.com/blog/hd-index-painting-in-photoshop

hi jseph. I seem to have a problem with zutilities. my model has uv’s and whenever i push the macro button to paint on flattened uv’s zbrush gives me this warning and then crashes. same goes for other models with uv’s i try. i have tried to lower my subdivs before pushing the macro button but the same happens. any ideas?

@Monkyfutz: I have been able to get this to reproduce on my end; looking into a fix  Thanks!

-Joseph

Cheers mate

@Monkyfutz: I attached a fixed version of the Paint on UV macro you can (just replace the one you have in your directory.) The full pack ZIP file has been updated with the fixes on Gumroad and the link above as well.

Let me know if it works for ya
