There must be an easier way to weld points... is there?

Hi,

I was making some pants for this figure. I needed to split the pants in the front to make a fly but also for a neater UV map I split the pants in four, two front panels, two back panels. So I hid one front panel, Split it to it’s on sub tool layer, in doing so, got the fly made but wanted to weld the pants back together but when I merged the two subtool layers together I found that using the Topological brush the seams were not welded. They do match. When I used the Weld Points MOST took but under the crotch area where the fly that I made ends there are a few stranglers that while they match I just can’t get to them to pull them close enough to get the Weld Points function to operate.

I know that in some modeling programs there is a snap points option. Is there a similar function in ZBrush that may help me get these last few reconnected?? Is so how do I go about this?

I’m not very good at allot of this so trying my best here…

Thanks so much

Richard

Not sure I really understand what you’re doing from your description, but there is a Weld distance slider next to the weld points function in the Geometry > Modify Toplogy menu that will set how aggressively that function welds points.

If you’re trying to model vertex by vertex in Zbrush, however, chances are you’re not using the program to its strengths. Will anyone be viewing the zipper area of the pants on this figure so closely that it really needs to be split into two separate pieces, rather than just sculpting the detail in?

You can always stitch individual points together with the Point > Stitch function of the ZModeler brush.

Hi,

It’s a poseable figure so yea, if someone poses him in an extreme pose the area under the button fly section will come apart. I had this happen with another pair I made previously and really wanted to see if there was a way to stitch just a few more of these points back together before doing the UV mapping. I did set the Weld Distance up to 25 from 1 and still had issues with it. Would it be safe to just pop that all the way up to 100 and see if that works??

Thanks!

I’d need to see some pics of what you’re trying to do to give better advice.

Hi,

Ended up starting the project over. Is there a way to break/split JUST the front center polys to down the center of where a pair of pants would open up? I tried it with the new modeling tools but I just couldn’t see the right action to choose to do that.

Thanks so much. Busy day or I would have been in touch sooner.

Rich

Hmmm, I think I figured it out… I masked out just the center border and clicked the Unweld Groups Border. Makes sense.

Ah, but it it to all the borders along all the polygroups. No, not what I want. Just that one area. Sigh… If I only had a brain…

This worked for me:

Mask and move ONLY the fly points:

BRILLIANT! Thanks Thor.
