The Sorcerer's Apprentice

One of my long time doubt is whether I could do a CG version of this guy without making it look too cheesy. It’s kinda’ difficult task because this guy is one of the most recognizable image in the world and so easy to spot a flaw if it tunrs out to be off-model. I hope Mr. Walt won’t mind my take on his greatest character of all time!

As an animator., FANTASIA is one of the all time greatest animated film for me. I, particularly like Sorcerer’s Apprentice for it’s wonderful message.

“Given the power of Imagination, we can achieve anything.”

Believe in Magic…!

So very cool! He is just totally awesome!

As always, you deliver, most wonderfully!

:+1: :+1: :+1:

He turned out great! I think Walt would definitely appreciate this one. Fantasia is one of my favorites too! :+1:

Simply Fabulous, I can’t see a single flaw in this wonderful portrayal of mickey mouse.

You did a wonderful job. First rate ~s~

Nice one, Sonny! Tricky not to ‘cheese’ this guy all right, but you pulled it off nicely!

:+1: :+1: :+1: :sunglasses:

 Great job!! The wizards hat and robe really stand out on mickey

MICKEY!! All right! I love him… he is lovable, colourful, and just plain wonderful!
Terrific piece of work. And I still love Fantasia even now!
 :+1: :+1:

I’m sure Walt isn’t roling in his cryogenic pod…or didn’t that get thawd out come to think of it…damn shame.

Nice work btw…I was going to have a crack at Mickey, but I’m still waiting on 1.5

Just a 121…do his eyes look a little off or is it me?

Nice work Sonny!!! I like more u style!! As always this is a perfect characterization!!!
Well done !!!
:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

VERY well done!!!

He turned out great! I didn’t have any doubts that you could pull it off and the image turned out wonderful :+1: :+1:

Hi Santa :+1:
Sorcerer has not a magic broom ?
It’s seem to be remember that but it’s so long time, I can mistake
Pilou

Fantastic image well done!

very well done … the light settings are awesome…

Bravo --a delightful Mickey Mouse – looks like a plasticine statue on my desk…or a real mouse EEK :grimacing: Great stuff maestro  :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

This is real good.Very proffesional. But the eyes seem a little strange. Like he is possessed. Sort of like my eyes tonight. LOL. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Love the theme and the modeling like everyone else…you always produce some of the most outstanding zimages…truly…and I rarely say anything to the contrary…the only area if it were me that I would change is the material on the eyes…I have to agree with Mr.Frog on this one…made Mickey look a bit scary…I dont know how the toy plastic material would work on this piece for the eyes…hmmm…it may be just the way the light is hitting the eyes with the particular settings you used…anyways…it’s better than anything I have made to date for sure… :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Sonny,

This may sound silly but, I keep looking at your rocks. I have been struggling for a week just to make a decent boulder. Any hints on the material, settings, colors you used?

Thanks a lot everyone for all your nice and positive comments. This piece will probably be one of my personal favorites.

Early in my career I had the chance to work on a Disney Project. (Disney Imagineering) It still remains one of the most memorable gigs I’ve done to this date. Doing this piece brought back a lot of good memories about that project.

Now to answer some of your questions.

Frenchy P.: I wanted to put the broom but was afraid it might steal the focus away from Mickey!

Mr. Frog & Ron: I;ve played several materials on the eyes and just can’t get the right combo. The light source is really affecting the way the shadow is cast on the eyeballs that makes it a little dark or weird. Applying a lighter material makes it standout and unnatural. I’ll work on it some more I guess. Thanks for the feedback you too.

Vikki: Constantly very supportive of my art.
I’ll look at the rock material that I used and let you know. I don’t have access right now to my workstation so I can’t answer you just yet. I’ll send you an e-mail soon.
