The Shrike - WIP

[shrike_wip_persp_01_web.jpg]shrike-zsphere_Web.jpg

Well hello!

Here is a little WIP for you zbrush addicts!

its an adaption of a character called ‘The Shrike’ (how obvious was that) from a book by Dan Simmons called ‘Hyperion’.

Crits are more then welcome. Right now im just sort of sketching out the details and pushing it further. Everything has been seperated in seperate subtools. its all changable, so im up for any thoughts. Going to add some more armour like patterns, push the difference between the armour and the skin textures. Need to add some lovely diamon eyes whicha re attached to the face with metal hooks.

Not touched the hands/feet/torso/ yet and just started building on the arms.

The base mesh was created using zspheres (pictured above!), quick, no more then 10 mins and seems to be working a treat. My first time ive really used them like this, but ill be doing it alot more often from now on.

ill be updating this one over the coming weeks. Be good to hear what u think.

cheers!

Susurrus.

I think the Tree of Pain would make a good Z-sculpt…for monstermaker:D

Good start…the Shrike is a machine. Are you going to emphasize that?

For an authentic Shrike, you need more blades;)

Thanks :+1:

Yeah, i am thinking of doing the Tree of Pain in the background. Would be pretty sweet. Be fun sliding some tortured victims onto the steel branches! Ah-hem… 3d victims…

im currently reading Fall of hyperion and ive got so many different variants of the Shrike running through my head. At the mo this one is very organic… but im planning on adding alot more armour pieces over the top. These will have smaller blades on them.

I even think im going to cover the face with more steel pieces.

What im doing is fiddling with the pose abit, and just chucking out a number of variations and see if they are closer to the book version.

I think its arms should be more disjointed… or double jointed. ?

Some descriptions have the shrike with blades coming from every wrist and joint and from very finger/knuckle. hehe

One step at a time :sunglasses:

I really like it a lot. But i just started to read the other Hyperion books, Endymion. And there the Shrike has of course another appearence, and it is more detailed described. After what is written there, the Shrike is a human beeing in a special suit which lets him travel triough time.
Based on what is decribe there, your concept does not fit anymore. Anyway, it is still a very cool character design.
Cheers
Heiner

He/she looks vicious  !

I like it! It´s going to be interesting to see how far you can take this…

Very interesting take on the Shrike. I think you should continue with it as you please and dont feel that you must try and adhere to the books, as we all imagine it differently anway.

That aside, a beautiful model so far. The large head works particularly well i reckon. Perhaps you could model the arms so that they are little less human, maybe retain their shape but suggest that they are metal rather than flesh. Or a mix. I think with this sort of thing it’s really up to you as far as design goes!

Loved the books, so i’ll be watching this one closely
