The Great Little Worm

Well, I thought this piece would not take that long, but this became quite the undertaking! It is done, so I’d like to share some renders! Since the intent here for me was to create a good workflow and setup to do illustration like renders, I’ll start of with that!

And an alternative render with a slightly different filter setup

I could literally post a dozen of these, since this little enterprise left me with about as much NPR presets I all like. But, I’ll be using those for other projects perhaps…
While working on this scene I briefly tried having two of these creatures with some interaction. I choose to stick to a single one, but I do like this screengrab

After ages tweaking NPR filters, I’ve spent as much time doing non-npr render setups in keyshot. Again I have about a dozen renders, but these are a few of my favorites:

I like the style a lot. Very interesting creature! Was the environment also created in ZBrush?

Thanks! Yes, all of it created in zbrush. The environment is largely done with surface noise for the muddy/rocky bits and a lot of fiber mesh experimentations for the growth. I ended up turning the orange moss into a dynamesh blob with surface noise applied to it, as the fibermesh itself proved difficult rendering the way I wanted it.

I love that contour cross-hatching in the top picture. How is that achieved?
