The Chronicles of Riddick - Vin Diesel

Hi everyone, in this project I wanted to create a digital double for the character of Riddick from “The Chronicles of Riddick” movie.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Riddick and I think Vin Diesel is just perfect for that character.
The model is almost finished, I will spend some more time on details here and there without overwork it 'cause I will rely a lot on texturing and shading for an extra step of realism.
Hope u like it so far and hope you will follow me for the rest of the work :slight_smile:
Any comment, suggestion or else is very appreciated!

@1soul: thank you!
@rasmusW: hey buddy how’s going? :slight_smile: thank u for pointing out the googles, after looking at my screengrabs I realized that they were a bit small, so I reshaped them a bit, hope this is much closer to the original! thank u very much :wink:

Besides that I did minor sculpting on boots, next is to finalize body details.

looks good. keep it coming. :+1:

on the screen with the goggles he looks familiar, but without them I can barely say its vin diesel. good job anyway, perhaps when you gonna textue this model, it would have more likeliness.

This is looking good! I have just one small suggestion that I think might help with the likeness. I think the profile of the head might be a bit too wide and the ear a bit small. You can see from the photo how his ear extends outside of his head in a 3/4 view. His neck is thinner and we can’t see as much of the back of his head. Hope this helps! Keep going!

wonderful i love ur works

Hey guys, thanks for the comments!
@Al.Tintop: thanks man!
@Uber: thank you Uber, I htink the MR render flattens a bit the face, I will attach some zbrush views so u can have a better understanding of the face’s forms.
@bruggiero: First let me say that you’re Gutsu model is awesome, Berserk is (actually “were” because now it’s a very different manga from the first 20/30 numbers) one of my favourite manga ever!
I’m thinking something with his profile is off, cannot get it though! I’m attaching here the references I use, directly taken from the dvd. Vin is looking really different from photos to photos u can find online so I’m gonna stay with my screengrabs just to be coherent. Thank you!
@adampof: thank you!

Nice work…one of my favorites.

The lenses should stand out away from the frames. Check your reference #2,4. They also surrounded by a rolled border.

Excellent, how did you do the clasps on the suspenders?

Great Reference, I figured you had to have some. Finding a profile is hard because actors often don’t like being photographed that way. I think this little mash up I did might help identify that problem. Looks like the back of the head is little off in the curve and the jaw is pushed out a little too much. The first two shots are the two pics I used and the second two are the model overlayed at 50% transparency (one with markups for ref). It may be a little hard to tell which is which but the outer red line is the model and the inner red line is Vin’s pic. You really nailed the nose, eyes, and lips. They really match up spot on. Hope this helps.

P.S. I am humbled by the comments about my work. Thanks!

Also, the goggles are pretty tight so they push the skin of his eyebrows up, which I don’t see on your model.

Hi again, I took some time to get closer and closer to the actor’s face, now I’m quite satisfied from the results.
In the past days I also did the complete unwrap of all the meshes so now it’s time to get started with the textures finally!
@markkens: thanks, I played a bit more with the glasses in the past days, now they should be ok!
@EricShawn: Thank you, the clasps were modeled in 3ds Max with simple polymodeling.
@bruggiero: Thank you my friend, your picture really push me in the right direction! Thank u very much!
Here’s the updates:

This guy is really starting to look good. Looks like him.

Hey there! I tried commenting a while back but there were some troubles with the site so I gave up :slight_smile: I think it’s a definite improvement, but just can’t help but feel you were focused on the likeness that the anatomy of the head suffered. I got the same problem when doing likenesess,as opposed as doing made up people/creatures, but figured out to focus on the anatomy first and the likenes secondly. Cause you don’t have trouble with forms (the reproductor is stunning), but perhaps don’t have experience to tackle likenesses. Hope this helps :slight_smile: :+1:

The work on the face is already impressive: you are done a Great Great job!
I can not wait to see it textured

This is heading to the top row :slight_smile:

Hello again and thanks for your support :wink:
@Derek Frenzo: thank you!
@cherub_rock: thanks for the advice, actually I tend to match the references I have but always keeping in mind the (his) skull anatomy.
@guti: hey man thanks for the kind words! here u have some updates on the textures, enjoy :stuck_out_tongue:
@stefanobernardi: Thank you very much!

Just a quick update on the texturing: I rough out the face/body and almost finished some of the clothes. Still lot of work left but here is how is he look like so far.
