The B*astard Son of Yoda and ET [WIP???]

alien-1-web.jpg

I was messing around tonight learning myself how to use Zspheres and wasn’t really doing anything serious but out pops this little fellow! I was trying to get my mind in the right place to try again with the mummy model, so I wasn’t really wanting to start something else.

He’s made using the inflate brush and zspheres only at this stage and I’ve added a simple color to give him less of a black and white feel. I’ve done my best not to mirror every detail on him to make him less ‘artificial’ that my last try at the mummy.

I’ll probably continue with this b*astard son of ET and Yoda:lol: and see how he turns out. Any crits as usual are welcome.

PS anyone know any tuts on adding eyes to him?

well mr. moochie is gonna be posting an adding eyes to heads newbie challenge soon so you can wait for that or do a search on eyeball instead of eyes…that will give ya many places to begin.

sorry i don’t have any specific links right here right now.

Thanks I managed to find some stuff to try out. Now I’ve just got to find the time as my sites MySQL and all backups have been accidetnally delted from the datacenter  Loks like I’ll have to do the fastest redesign in history!!! then its back to this little blokes eyes.

After messing around for an hour or so I found he looked best with a simple texture. (Plus Zbrush crashed no less than 2 times when I was nearly finished!) As you can see I’ve decided to go for a jet black eye as it adds a ‘deeper’ quality to his poersonality I feel.

I’d love to animate him but maya simply won’t handle this model on my machine (as its not powerful enough…my PC that is). if anyone else fancies a go or a mess about with the model post here and I’ll set a link to it.

There are quite a few layers on this model’s texture, although its decievingly simple to look at. I’m not sure whther I should add more to it or not, I suppose it depnds on what everyone thinks of this version. Also It’s worth a look at the link above to the high res full size image as it really does him justice I feel. Plus it also makes a snazzy wallpaper
Enjoy

Not a massive update, just some texture work(Zbrush render)

Sorry for the large gap since my last post (projection master has decided to have a hissy fit). I thought I’d try out a lighter texture on this and add a few more subtle colours to it. I’ve tried to make this not look like a ‘texture’ if you know what I mean. Know I’ve just got to work out the whole ‘maya/displacement maps from zbrush’ thing. Obviously I’m doing something wrong in the export as its renders in maya like an explosion in a glue factory (while the pixolator head and sword render fine.)
Looks like I’m off on a hunt for details of exporting (I flip and RGB it in photoshop btw). I’d like to do some nice sub surface stuff in maya/mental ray on this head, so I’ve really got to get that worked out as I prefer it to the renders in Zbrush.
Enjoy

Hi DarthWayne
It is not at all bad, it’s actually quite good for just 1 week Zbrush. Perhaps play a bit with specularity, which I believe is a must once you are finished with color maps.
Best luck and lots of fun.
:D;)

Reloaded!!

This was one of my first models in zbrush and my 1st from scratch starting from Zspheres. I’d all but forgot about it, but after being sick to death of looking at the mummy I’ve been doing for what seems like a lifetime I thought it would be fun to see how I could improve this ET / Yoda model.

I’ve added a new shader and lighting and totally redone the texture from scratch again. Obviously I still have bump and spec maps to do and might even play around with his overal shape to see how much i can get out of this ‘old’ model. It is suprising how much you can learn in a short time in Zbrush, even more suprising as my son’s teething at the moment so modelling time is quite rare. Still at least my other half and I have our sanity…Just!

I thought I’d change the head shape a bit for a change and do some more work on the colour map. I’ve decieded on a pose of him so at a later date I’ll be doing his upper body and a hand (obviously he’s going to need some decent eyes too as he’s severely lacking in that dept. )
It’s a strange expience going back to one of my earliest models now, it’l be interesting how much I’ll have to change him to make him look anywhere approaching decent.

Lastest bit of work, eyes are just placeholders at the moment. I thought I’d add a bit of depth of field just for fun.

New skin shader etc, also trying out a few lighting tweaks. I did a test of the final post work as well which was pretty basic but gives the look I’m after. All it was was a brightness / contrast tweak and playing around with the curves in photoshop, oh and my usual DOF as well.

I didn’t have alot of time when doing this also I have some more ideas for furhter detail on the mesh that I’m going to have a go at over the next few days.

Wayne…

Just realised that theres been no comments since the start of october. Come on people any comments even if it’s just to tell me to stop? Wayne…

Don’t stop keep going, that last render looks good nice use of colors on the texture, practice makes perfect I say.

Keep up the good work.

I love the expression on his face. Very cool… :+1:
