Thanos : Bust by Ian Joyner, Zbrush and Output by Gentle Giant

So this is as finished as this one will get.

I made the initial sculpt for a presentation I did at Gnomon for Pixologic, and then I did the base/bust and Gentle Giant did an output of it for Siggraph, it was on display at the Pixologic booth.

They did a cast and Resin for me, and I love it, have it on my little glass case. It is really cool to be able to hold something I made on a computer…

Anyway hope you guys like it

(btw he is a Marvel comics character called Thanos)

The detail actually looks better in person, my camera is sort of crappy. I am also much more handsome in real life…I… uh…swear. Big thanks to Scott Spencer at Gentle Giant!!

Very Cool Work Mobikins!
I always loved this character… and you have done a very well done version.
:+1:  :+1:

Very cool. Can’t wait to get this in the office.

Thanks!

Ryan

Very cool work, it came out superbly in the physical output!

I’ve been meaning to do something for “real” rapid-prototyping for ages, can you share any info on how difficult/easy it was to get this “3D-printed”? How expensive is the process, and which company would you recommend?

I remember seeing Kenneth Scott’s awesome Doom3 creature he got prototyped up for real, it looked great too. I love the idea of being able to hold and feel a ZBrush sculpt, and paint it by hand in a traditional manner… plus it’d make a cool and unique desk toy!

Sorry for the rambling, I’d appreciate any info you can share on this process though.

Cheers!

Wow…Really big fan of your work, and this proves exactly why…
Great Sculpt man…keep it up

So cool!

I’d love to have one of those made too some time.

That’s pretty baller! I’m just havin’ a hard time trying to wrap my mind around how they got so much detail from a printer. I mean, my printer couldn’t even get me half of that in 2D and theres does it in 3D! Bananas. I wonder if Gentle Giant has a layaway plan?

Love the way you sculpt and a great output from Gentle Giant.

Cheers

Great sculpt! Man i wish I could have my sculpts as real statue pieces on my desk! Must be awesome to feel your sculpt in reality! Just curious…Was that sculpted from a sphere?

Wow man…this is truly awesome…this is exactly why im a big fan of your work. Good stuff man.

Very cool!
Too cool to see it in real…:+1: :+1: :+1:

If you send a model for them to print in 3D, does it have to be cut up like with clay and if so, by who?

Hey guys, thanks for the kind words!

piz:
Thanks man!

ryankingslien:
Yeah, I am honored you guys will have it there!

MoP:
I can not comment on the price, as I do a lot of work with Gentle Giant, I can say they have good rates and do amazng outputs… I will definetly be getting more done! Kenneth Scott’s was bad @$$, I love his work.

j lizzle:
haha you would have to ask them about a layaway plan

stumpf:
thanks!

brettSinclair:
yeah it is wild being able to hold it in my hands… Reminds me why I got into sculpting in the first place

pixolClay:
thanks man!

Sebcesoir:
Yeah it’s a trip. I could see going into debt outputting everything I make haha.

GabeM:
Nope I just sent them a water tight OBJ file, I will try and post a breakdown of its creation on my site when the new one goes live.

Thanks again everyone!!

Thanks for the response, Ian. A breakdown of the processes you went through to get this done would be awesome, I’ll bookmark your site once it goes up, and check back

I second that :+1:

Almost stole it from scotts desk LOL! great work! was nice to see you st sharkys the other day

MoP and GabeM:

I will work on it this week. I amtrying to get a new site up, and would love to have a little mini tutorial to launch with it.

monkeymuscle:
Yeah Sharky’s was fun, wish I could have stayed longer
I think you should… pull an Indiana Jones and leave a bag of sand where it used to be, he will never notice…also…RUN!

Ian,

Awesome work you are doing and thanks for the tutorials. They are helping a lot.

QQ:

How much to output a bust or ZB sculpt like that?

Oh bummer, just when I thought I had a good idea.
