Texturing/polypaint/Spotlight Tutorials for characters

Hey all,

I am working on a project that has me texturing a bit of characters/creatures I worked on sculpting detail onto. It will mostly be mechanics/electronics mixed with animal fur and hard surface stuff. I am getting some ok results from what I have been playing with, but I really want to step my texturing game up, and am curious if I should maybe look into a third party app for this? I really like doing as much as possible in Zbrush but anything that people have seen online that helped them would be awesome… I just am not getting the clean results I am looking for quite yet. I am really looking for help with workflow/techniques/good practice and help with getting photo real textures using spotlight.

As a side note these models are going to be zremeshed then brought into cinema 4D with displacement/normal/Texture maps if that helps at all…

Much appreciated if someone has some good insight.

ZBrush can make textures as good as Photoshop or anything else, in my opinion. The key to getting maximum details is having your mesh subdivided high. If for instance you want a 4k texture of a models head, make sure the head has about 4 million polys.
Another consideration is the size of any images you are using for Spotlight. Using a 512x512 texture on a 4 million poly model won’t magically give any more painted detail than the 512 already has.

See ZAppLink to your 2D editor of choice. And you can just use the paintbrush tool on the canvas too. And then there’s Pixols to 3D
