Texturing a plane with transparency

Hello!

I’ve been following a tutorial on creating a tree in Zbrush. I’ve encountered an issue when it comes to creating the small branches. The tutorial involves creating an Insert Mesh with overlapping planes and applying the texture with transparency to them but does this using RizomUV. Is there a way I can do this with Zbrush alone? I’m using ZBrush 4R8.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Glenn

Hi @gspice91!

You should upgrade to the most recent version. This is free for registered users, and comes with a variety of fixes and new features. Furthermore, outdated versions are not officially supported–it’s difficult to troubleshoot problems if you have to factor in potential issues with an obsolete program version.

As to your issue, this is difficult for me to say without being able to see what the tutorial is asking you to do.

Yes, you can apply a transparent texture to inserted meshes (though they won’t draw out with that texture applied). Yes you can create UVs in Zbrush. If using the plane primitives, they even come with a UV mapping by default that should be adequate for applying a transparent texture to.

However, the “overlapping meshes” part of your description sounds like it may involve some trickier aspects of UV mapping, and there are a number of ways you could break your UVs setting that up. We would need to see the tutorial to guess at where you might be having trouble.
