TextureMaster Tutorial in Illustrated Text Form

Important Note: TextureMaster has been replaced in ZBrush 2 by Projection Master, which is built into the software. If you are a ZBrush 2 user, you should not use TextureMaster anymore. The tutorial, however, still applies to the non-displacement parts of the utility; the only thing that has changed is the control panel.

First, a recap about the TextureMaster for anyone who’s never heard of it:

"Hi
In ZBrush, there are several methods that can be used when texturing a 3D object.
The most effective method is to utilize the 3DCopy feature; a feature which enables
you to incorporate all ZBrush tools (2D and 3D) in the texturing process.
The TextureMaster ZScript simplifies this texturing process and allows you to gain
the full benefit of the 3DCopy feature.

If you are interested in texturing a 3D object that was created in ZBrush or imported
from other applications, you are likely to find this ZScript valuable.

:large_orange_diamond: Click Here to Download the TextureMaster ZScript :large_orange_diamond:

:large_orange_diamond: This zip file is about 1 meg in size and contains the utility ZScript and tutorials.
:large_orange_diamond: The zip file contains 5 files, which should placed within a TextureMaster folder.
:large_orange_diamond: The TextureMaster folder should be placed within your ZScript folder.
:large_orange_diamond: If you encounter difficulties running TextureMaster, please read This Thread.

After placing the files within your ZScript folder, launch ZBrush and load the TextureMasterRevE.txt ZScript,
then press the ?Show And Tell? button to learn about this ZScript.

Please post your texturing experiments and/or findings in The Original TextureMaster Thread"
–Pixolator

As Pixolator said, the ShowAndTell button runs a great tutorial that explains exactly how to use the script to best advantage. The only problem is, not everyone has a photographic memory, and there’s a lot of great info to learn from it!

Because of that, there have been many requests for a text version of the tutorial. So here it is! I’ve gone through the entire ZScript tutorial and translated it to illustrated text format. The entire contents of the original tutorial are here (edited only enough to make the tutorial able to be followed in text – rather than interactive – form), along with 84 screen captures that illustrate the process step by step.

This version of the tutorial is meant to supplement the original ZScript, not to replace it. I recommend first running the ZScript tutorial so that you can watch Pixolator in action. Next, print this text version and keep it handy while you work through the same steps for yourself.

Happy texturing!

:large_orange_diamond: The tutorial is in PDF format (thank you, Karl Cartwright!). This is to make it useful to more users. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, you can get it for free at www.adobe.com.
:large_orange_diamond: The file weighs in at 490KB thanks to all of the illustrations.
:large_orange_diamond: The download does not include the TextureMaster script. Please download that using the link above.

Hey, I tried to convert this documet to PDF but the file size of the PDF document comes to about 1.28 Mb, so it’s better to stick with this DOC format.

Another generous contribution of your time and energy Matthew…One of many! You’re one of the reasons this place is what it is!
