Texture Reference on model while doing polypaint / retopology?

Hello,

I have an organicly shaped model that is supposed to have different materials on it. I want to retopologize/ UV the model according to these materials - for this purpose I made a texture map on the model in Substance painter that indicates where each color goes.

Now it would be super handy if it would somehow be possible to have this “reference” texture on the model, while doing the polypaint lines for the PolyGroupIt retopology on top of it on a different layer, so I can put the seams exactly where the colors change.
Somehow I can’t figure out if this is possible and there don’t seem to be any tutorials for this.

Thank you and best regards

Hi @bobbyburrito

Is Polygrouping not sufficient to establish the different material zones?

Hi,
unfortunately not, the reference map exists as a .png and the mesh is quite complicated, so the only easy solution would be Polygroup by paint -
