ZBrushCentral

texture question, hopelessly stuck.

Haven’t done this for awhile and am stuck.
Imported an object into zbrush.
Used polypainting to paint a texture on the model.
If I save and open the tool, the color is there.
If I change the material you can see my painting.
Now.
If I save as a maya file, no materia/texturel is saved.
If I export as obj file object comes in as white.
Basically I am trying to create a texture map from what I have painted
on the object.
If I use the command texture from polypaint, what I get has nothing to do
with what I painted.

Will not tell you how long I have spent on this,I have some pride.
Thanks in advance

Hi

It may be the case of just check listing the simplest things.

When you paint the colourize button is auto on, and shows the polypaint. Unless you have MRGB on, no material is painted with this, so regardless of the painting, the material can be changed, and in some cases almost hide the poly paint. As your know you can fill the object with just M button sellected which wont allow you to sellect a new material while polypainting is on.

Once you press (new from polypaint), the newly created texture will overide the polyainting, and while this texture is turned on, in the texture map area to the right of the UI tray, it will export with the obj as BMP, or a Maya file as a Tiff. If that texture is not on for that sub tool, no texture will export at all with that model, not even if its sellected in the old location where textures use to be sellected from, which is the left of the UI.

So basicly the texture shown in the texture map area for Sub tools (right of the UI) has to be on and and the correct texture sellected.

bic, have you uvmapped the model?(you probably have)
what exactly does this mean:If I use the command texture from polypaint, what I get has nothing to do
with what I painted.
what kind of texture are you getting?
what version are you using?

Many thanks for the reply, appreciate it.
Have a feeling I have to start from scratch.
Have checked all of what you say.
Question of so near, yet so far.
Have a feeling that uv’s are to blame.
Will throw in the towel and restart.
Thank you for your time, meant a lot.

Basicly what ever you see for that subtool as a texture, is what texture will export with your model.
