Texture Master Mystery

Ok here is the prob. I can create a sphere, then use texture master(hence forth tm) to drop it. Then paint some and pick it up. Ok, I can then add to the sphere(buldge out) and drop it again. Paint some, pick it up. Now things get weird. If I use radial symetry on the z axis to make like a mushroom, then use tm to drop it. I paint on it and pick it up, but the painting doesnt go to the texture. Some specks of the color I was using get placed on the texture, but thats it. Its like using radial symetry to sculpt the sphere is breaking something.

If there is polygon stretching, you might actually have polygons stretching off the screen and they don’t get mapped on the model correctly. Try working without smoothing on, maybe that will solve the problem.

I dont know how to turn off smoothing, but Im lead to beleive thats not the issue. After using radial symetry a can delete my mushroom, add a 3d sphere, and I cant even texture that anymore. Try modeling a mushroom outof a sphere using radial symetry on the z axis, mirror symetry, and then texturing it.

Update: I can deform the CRAP out of it with normal zadd, no symetry, and I can still texture it. It seems like symetry sculpting is breaking it somehow.

Well, I did exactly what you described and was unable to duplicate what you had happen. The only thing that I can think of is that you might have missed a step somewhere along the line, or had an overlooked setting.

An example is if you have mistakenly pressed Draw>ZSub before dropping the model for texturing.
If you press Pick and the texture remains unchanged, do the following:

  1. Without moving the model, look for the modifier (such as ZSub) that is causing the problem and choose the correct setting.
  2. Press Drop in TextureMaster and then execute 2 Undos (Ctrl+Z). The canvas should now be exactly as it was before pressing Pick.
  3. Press Pick. If you have correctly adjusted the modifiers in step 1, the texture will now be updated. If it still doesn’t copy, go back to step 1.

Thanks for the reply, and nice pic. I give it a shot, but it just seems that whenever I use radial symetry, bamm. Be back in a sec.

Ok, I made double sure zadd, zsubtrac, and even radial symetry were turned off. It still does the same thing. It kinda puts the color im painting with in wierd places, and realy little. Like specs. This doesnt happen if I dont use symetry to make the mushroom though, but the mushroom looks like shite if I dont use symetry. Could you make a zscript of you modeling a simple mushroom and then painting like a stripe on it. I really want to figure this out.

Update. I found out whats breaking it, just not why. When I model my mushroom i flip it over and zsubtract from the base of the canopy to make it concave. After that the textures wont take anymore. I can add all I want, but if a subtract from there, no more texturing is allowed. Hmmmmmm. I would post a picture showing this, but Ive no web space.

Ugg. Upon further examination, if I subtract from the sphere anywhere it breaks the texturing ability. I mean, I can make a mushroom without denting in the sphere, It just looks better when I do in certain places.

by any chance did you
1:color it
THEN
2: switched over to Flat Color Material
3: have the M Button on.

Nope nope. Keep my painting settings. I can sit there and texture it. Add to the sphere. Texture some more. Then subtract. Boom. Cant texture anymore. And of course, if I subtract any time during the first creation process, I cant texture at all.

What do you mean by (subtract)
do you mean lowering the poly count by optimizing it?
you said Add to the sphere.
what are you adding to the sphere?

I mean zsubract. Like add bulges the sphere, and subtract squishes it in.

sorry that odd to me.
you might want to INTILIZE threw prefrance before you start.
thats all i can think of unless your doing some thing wrong.

I figured out my prob. I was using zsubtract instead of alt-rightclick with zadd. Woops. Thanks for the help everyone.

Here is a script that uses both ZADD and ZSUB when in Edit>Draw mode. I had absolutely no problems texturing the resulting mushroom.

Mushroom.TXT

You may want to turn Show Actions on before playing the script.

Edit: I see you posted that you’d found your error while I was posting. Glad to see it’s worked out!

Yeah thanks for the response anyway. Nice to see a program that has such speedy tech support
