Texture help

I’m working on an animation project that will focus around my first real effort in zbrush but i am having a hard time making a good texture for it.
i have very little experience with texturing, and the technique i have been using looks too cartoony (painting in the projection master), and it looks like I’m losing the detail of the model. I’d like a more “scaley” look but i cant seem to get it. does anyone have any tips?
here is the model without a texture dino2.jpg

any tips or feedback will help, thanks

hi

check out the zclassroom link in my signature below…there is a link there to Artists in Action which has movies on texturing and coloring that are done by some of zbrush’s finest artists to help us learn zbrush and see different ways of accomplishing the same things…very cool stuff.

there are also a number of good texturing tutorials over in the tutorials forum…look for one called Dino Skin tutorial.

don’t worry you’ll get it!

hey, thanks, i really appreciate the help, just found ZappLink, looks like just what I was looking for.

ok, i restarted the whole texture and decided to go with a green-yellowish combo instead, i think it turned out a lot better so far… new texture.jpg
I have have a bit to do (mainly the arms and legs, teeth and gums) but I would appreciate any comments or suggestions on how to make it better.
