Okay, maybe I’m on the slow train here and someone already knows this…
But it just occured to me that there is text within ZBrush. As an alpha brush.
(If I’m the last to figure this out, be NICE to me! Old people are SUPPOSED to be slow!!!

kathy, I was wondering about text myself. So, from one old slow person to another, the discovery is a welcomed one.
yeah i use my letters with stencil.
Yep, everything is an Alpha Brush…I’m just starting to get this myself, along with some of the subtle things you can do with them…
Welcome to geezerhood, Lady Kat!
hey kathy its true about the alpha brush but…you can achieve text using a program called elephont… the lets you change letters into ztools…
True. I use Amorphium to import text meshes.
I just didn’t “think” about the brushes before. And after messing with it, and creating a few alphabets worth of fonts, I realized that there was a whole new genre in that thought.
Ah, the joy of riding the little bus… Sometimes I really enjoy my ride! hee hee
were can i get amorphium because i can’t find it any were,
I’ve been creating my text in Photoshop and then importing it as an alpha to be applied via a stencil. For me, anyway, this has made control of positioning, rotating and sizing the text a little bit easier.
You folks have sure hit the nail on the head, though: the Alpha palette is probably the single most powerful part of ZBrush – but also the most underused. Good to see this stuff, and thank you Kathy!
I’ve spent the last week working heavily with the brushes. I feel like I’ve unleashed “the force”. Which is why I’m constantly getting side tracked on the challenge of Stonecutters.
I plan on zipping the finished brushes in 10 packs and putting them out on Visionized.com for download.
Amorphium is a great little app. I bought my copy way back when it was 1.0 and under “Play” ownership. http://macweek.macworld.com/2000/09/17/0919electricimage.html
I think you can buy the 1.0 version for $50 here: http://www.cadexperts.net/CE_Shop/Software_Shop/3D_Graphics_Software/body_3 d_graphics_software.html
Amorphium 1.0 was recently a FREEBIE in 2 of the mags (3D World?? and ??) With one CD Initially It didn’t work --but they fixed a patch on their website for it—of course the old 1.0 comes with a super instruction manual that the magazine(s) didn’t match…And yeah I bought mine on Ebay and was grafundified when the freebie came out!!!
i can’t find the Dirrect URL for the demo all i see are update downloads if you all ready have the program but no demo.
i even ask about it when posting this link i can NOT find any downloads just updates http://www.micropace.com/Products/ELC/3002.htm
I never thought of that! Thanks for the tip.

Click on “trial software”
Give them their sacrificial marketing information, and you have it EZ.
ok kathy ive downloaded the trial.but i think that for the purpose of creating text. in zbrush the easier program is still elephont… dont get me wrong i like the amorphium program from what ive seen so far,but your post has to deal with text…and elephont is free and very easy to work with…
Oh hey Doc, I’m not trying to say it’s better or worse. I’m just saying it’s what I use.
Elefont is easier. I won’t argue that it’s simpler.
I just happen to own Amorphium. I have elephont, but I always fall to Amorphium.
Ya can’t beat free though.
true kathy you cant beat free… thanks for the info on the new program ill have to try it out… heres something that ive done just using elephont…i thought that i would BANG some lyrics out…lol… just having fun sorry about the jpeg compression…
WOW!!!
I don’t know because, but when I looked at that illustration me the mind it came the band 70´s called KC & Sunshine Band…
How do you create the alpha in Photoshop?
In other words, do you apply a gradient or blur or can you just have white letter and black background and import it?
