Tavern Maid (First 2D Figure)

I took a little break from doing animals to practice a bit more 2D. This is the first figure I’ve done in 2D. It was a bit tougher than I expected and her face kind of had a mind of it’s own…

Special thanks to Stonecutter for all of his patience and advice.

Great job, it’s like a painting from Johannes Vermeer a Dutch Painter.

Thanks for the compliment Q.
It’s funny you should mention Vermeer. His Milkmaid painting was part of the inspiration for this image. I have a long way to go to reach the amazing level of detail in his pantings, but they are a great source of inspiration.

I dont see anything wrong with this one…wow…you did very very very very very well on this…definitely fine art…

Super good, Tag. Wish I could do faces… you seen what happens when I try… talk about a mind of their own ~L~

I really like this.

and the mind of her shows  :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: 2d z-art, Tami! wonderful!

Tami! She is absolutely awesome. I think she is perfect. Her face has wonderful character as does the rest of her and the rest of the image. I really like this! Very awesome!

FABULOUS WORK !! astonishing 2D work I’m Jealous-- :+1: :+1: :+1:

Tami, all I can day is exceptional! you should do more of this type of art. You have a flair for it from the little I have seen. I requires real talent to paint like that.
DeeVee,
Joe.

I LOVE that face, Tami…As others have said, you imbued it with real character, and you made a real person come alive…Fine painting indeed!!

I really like this painting, it looks like an older oil painting. I like her face too! It does have character and suits her stance. You are brave! I haven’t attempted to do people yet in 2D. Good for you!

:+1: :+1: :+1:

Very nice painting! I definitely hope that you’ll do some more like this. :+1:

Thank you all for the kind compliments. The face turned out different than I intended, but after much work and changes, I came to a point when I thought that the face fit and should leave it alone. The encouragement and input from everyone is very inspiring and much appreciated

Here I am, last in line as usual so with nothing original to say. Still, I had to post a reply simply to agree with the others. I think the face shows great character, and I love the muted colours for the clothing - entirely in keeping with the style. Very nice painting, Tag. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Excellent painting Tag. It has a lovely painterly feel to it. If I might make one tiny suggestion…You have worked up the detail and shading in the face wonderfully…however, you have left the hands rather light and flat. If you could zoom in and work up the hands to match the face…THEN…it would be a perfect image! It is obvious that you have a real talent for 2.5 painting and I would love to see you produce more of these. :+1: :+1:

Thanks again everyone. Thanks Belleski for pointing out the hands. Up close they actually are fully detailed, but not enough to see when you zoom out. I had looked at the image so much that I couldn’t see it. It really is helpful having someone else take a look to spot things like that.

For this image, I did a rough sketch, then grabbed it using the mrgbzgrabber. I applied it to a new image as a texture so I could paint in 2D. It was done with flat color, zero depth, and rgb only mode. Since I’ve started learning a bit about 2D, I think my 3D and 2.5 stuff has really improved. It’s interesting how each thing builds upon the others. Oh well, I think I’m starting to babble, time to call quits for the night, thanks again everyone.
