Tau Air Caste character

Hi there! After a bit help from some of you people (thanks!) i tried to modell a character first time with Zbrush2.

I think slowly i get the trick…

So, the first picture is the tau i use as reference (taken from www.coolminiornot.com ) the second my character in progress.
I think i got the proportion not that bad… but i figure it difficult to get the proportions right wenn you cant load a picture as background (how you all solve that?).
Even the face isnt bad (i am very proud of that  ), but the hands are giving me some headache…

Load a picture as texture.

Fill the layer with it, or apply it to a flat plane for scale and position.

Now generate a new layer, draw your zsphere on that , store your morph and model away.

Save the document without the zsphere character on the layer for re-use in further modeling sessions.

Enjoy.

or try Reference Image a way cool plugin by none other than the woild famous Marcus_Civus.

Man that Zplug is great! GREAT!

Thanks alot for that!

glad ya like it…don’t forget to let Marcus know!!

Small update.

I finished the Zsphere model and now i am refining the unified skin… skin.

Pretty hard to create the face… but great fun to do it this way without the need of polygon-loops or whatever!

He he, when I see your Tau, then I realy think I have to start working on my Kroot again  Hope I can get some time for that…

Time for an update!

i modelled mostly on the legs, arms and tried the hands. I just has to rework the hands (dont like them) and the head needs a lot of work!

Would be great to have some comments  !

A little update…

i got a big problem painting details: I cant paint thin strokes. If i lower the brushsize the stroke still has a minimum size which equals brushsize 10 (roundabout).
Until i solve that problem i cant finish hands and head…

@Cyberjankie:
I dont want to create a Himmelskaste-Tau. I am quite unsure whihc cate exactly. But i think at the end it will be an Etheral (then i can play a lot with this cool modul ‘Clothild’ from Maxon  ).

Wokring on the tau reminds me that it is time to smash some Tau with my tyranids :p:rolleyes:

Hi there!
Found another problem!

On the picture you can see it.
In the middle of the face at the middle ridge there is a kink which i dont want to be there! But i cant paint it away. If i smooth the area the kink ist much mor affected then the surrounding polys.
Have i made something wrong with the set up of the Zspheres? Can the problem still solved?

Next update.
I worked around the problem with increasing the polycount.

At the moment i am not pleased with the modell… hm… but cant say why.

At the moment i have big problems with the eyes and hands, very tricky those!

Comments are welcome!

Nest update.

It doenst look like a Tau very much now. But the face is better then then last versions.
I will make a “real” Tau with the next try…

Some more comments would be fine…

So, time for an update!

I finished the rough modelling of the Tau, now he gets some character. Head is finished. I am still wondering how fast you get good results with Zbrush! I hope to see some comments, or is it so bad?

EDIT:
Damn… he wont load up my image… is there a mximum size (pixels) for attachements?

EDIT 2:
Ha, finally he load up my picture! I won!
I finished the bump map now and going to paint the texture. Any advise what the best UV chocie would be?

So, update! I begun with painting. Found another problem:
On the picture there are brown lines visible. Why that? I painted from one side with double side projection and fade. Maybe fade is the problem?
