T-800 Terminator Bust

Hi everyone, just finished with a school project today, thought I’d show it.

We modeled our face in Maya and then modeled the T-800 Endo skull, cut into the face mesh and connected the two together. Used zbrush for some slight work on the face but major work on the ripped apart flesh. Rendered in MR for Maya.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my work.

Zbrush shots. Sorry, I couldn’t upload these in the other post. File upload was acting weird.

Love the renders! The texturing work is superb as well!

very nice job!
A littel thing…
the red color especialy by the ear gets into a orange tone wich look to saturated for me.At the edge of wounds the underlying tissue does not glow
like this. There where the tissue is only in small pieces like over the eye there is no blood in it anymore and so the skinn could be more white.I marked the areas with green lines.
I think if you can desaturate this orange it maybe already enough.
The Fotos underneath are from a surgery they may help for color reference.
But even these are sometimes oversaturated because they are done quickly
and surgons are in a hurry. But i think you see that at the edges there is no strong orange color.
But as i said it is only a little thing.Your work is verry nice and looks verry real.

whoaa…love the render/texturing that you got.really good !!!
:confused:i wish i know that technique:confused:

Thanks solid snake I loved working on this assignment.

Thanks zayacoon, I’ll go back and make those changes. Thanks for the reference, I was a bit afraid to venture too far into Google images, but really I was just hurting myself by not doing that.

Haha thanks Dhasian, I owe my knowledge to my professors, CG Society, Zbrush Central , and Mastering Maya 2009 book. But really all I’ve done can be found on these wonderful CG forums… or maya help

Absolutely cracking looking render. I know its slightly off topic in a zbrush forum but could u go into a bit more detail on ur methods in maya? lighting and texturing in particular?

Wa, the material is cool…

Thanks Martinf430 and JackYau.CN

I learned alot from this assignment… like I probably should had been more clean shaven when I was taking my reference photos and texture photos. I wish I’d modeled more of the upper torso so I can pose it in an interesting position. But working in CG is a forever learning experience and I’ll just have to bring what I’ve learned back to the table on the next go around.

With that said my method is not the end all answer… but it is what I did to achieve what I made, so take what you want from this and hopefully it will help you in some way.

Lighting: MR, no FG, 3 light system, production quality.
Textures: Photo ref. from myself, and some textures from a small library I’m building up.
Shaders: SSS for the skin and a Blinn for the metal endo skull.

If I missed anything just tell me and I’ll cover it.

Enjoy

A few things I noticed were the angles of where he was attacked. He has lines of damaged flesh going along the ear and the side of the face (a frontal attack) but he has dents where he would have been shot from the side (to the right of his left eye). The flesh on the right side of his skull is almost completely off which makes me think of what could have hit him.

If he was attacked by another machine I could see him getting his flesh ripped from the top of his skull to the back, which I would add a robotic hand print or finger tip marks damaging the other side of his face while his head is being held and flesh on skull torn off.

If he was attacked by ammunition I would make small marks(shrapnel damage) on his neck, nose, brow, and mouth area since he has damage below his right eye. Give your model some expression, maybe an angered brow since Terminators have realistic emotions.

Also, I would leave blots of blood and skin on the metallic skull because the damage was not incinerating nor bashing.

Your model is very detailed and modeling an average mans face compared to a perfect catalog model makes it feel realistic, good work.

haha. cool assignment. wish they did things like that when i was in school.

Although it is a terrorist but Material is still not been able to perfect

 yeah, the usualy assignment is like the cave troll from LOTR or last time it was the Rancor from Starwars. This time, sense it was the second time for a few of us he raised the bar. He just said do it and make it amazing. We were all like whooaaa… k not sure how but we’ll figure it out!

Okwang: Humm trying to figure out what your talking about. The sss skin shader (material) is somthing your having trouble with?

wow!!! Awesome T-800

Thanks Julper.

We have to submit to a certain website for school so I’ll be submitting this…
