Symmetry out of wack

Hi. I’ve been working on a head. Some where along the line my symmetry got out of wack. The head no longer aligns with the middle lines of the floor grid and when I try to use the brush, the placement of the 2 symmetry dots are scewed a little to the left. Is there any way I can correct this?

Thanks.

as soon as the middle line isn´t straight anymore you won´t be able to fix that in zbrush; zbrush needs a middle line to apply symmetry (except poseable symmetry).
(that´s also why zsphere-meshes sometimes have to be adjusted to get this middle line.)

i suggest you export the lowest subdivision level to i.e. maya and snap the middle line to the middle using the grid snap feature.

after reimporting the corrected mesh to zbrush, smart resym (deformations palette) will work… and after having applied smart resym the regular symmetry will work as well.

hope this helps!

Thanks very much.

I don’t have Maya, so I guess I’ll just have to trash this head.

Do you have any idea how this might have happened so I can be careful not to have it happen again? I was experimenting with layers and baking, which I’ve never done before–might I have done something wrong there?

this usually happens because of some reasons:

having unchecked symmetry unwillingly
using the transpose move brush with symmetry sometimes messes up the middle line
as mentioned before zspheres sometimes create meshes without symmetry

i am not shure if it has to do something with your baking steps, i guess not.

you could try to readjust the middle line via eyeballing, then use smart resym
