Symmetry map not stored problem/bug help Aurick

I keep losing symmetry when i make mesh extractions at lowest levels from original zsphere meshs, resym and smart resym with or without masking will not work and will say “symmetry map not stored”, i’ve tried to set pivot, unify, enable uv, poseable symmetry, polymesh3d, exporting/importing as obj all do not help.
HOWEVER, taking the obj back into zbrush 2.0 or 3.0 and doing the resymmetry will work. Is this a bug in 3.1? i’ve had various other symmetry problems in this version.
I’ve included the model to see if anyone can get it to resym and not get the sym map not stored error.

I’ve had this same problem numerous times. I didn’t notice that it was on extractions, but now that I think back, it was.

c’mon i know there must be some solution in 3.1 right? i’m not the only one with this problem

hmm, nobody? guess the mods really don’t like me, oh well

unfourtunatly, I don’t have zbrush 2.0 or 3.0, I bought mine as 3.1. Is there any way to fix this?

damaher, i don’t know a method other than that right now, hopefully someone in the know will help.

Have you tried storing a morph target for the ZSpheres before activating the preview? If that doesn’t resolve it, try storing a morph target while the preview is active, then switch back to it after doing your extraction.

aurick, thank you for responding, i’m sorry i wasn’t clear, the uploaded model which lost symmetry was an extraction off another model which was originally made from a zsphere adaptive mesh, that model has no symmetry problems.
are you able to get the uploaded model to have symmetry working again?

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. Have you checked to make sure that your original mesh was symmetrical prior to extraction? I’ve never encountered a case where a model derived from a symmetrical mesh would be assymmetrical. (Assuming, of course, that the masking was symmetrical. )

Sometimes ZSphere previews can lose their symmetry. But you should be able to run the Smart ReSym routine on the ZSpheres and/or preview before you start making extractions.

aurick heres the model that the problem mesh was extracted from, i only did an extraction off the neck/sholders. this model says full symmetry when smart resym is pressed. this is why i’m confused as to why the extraction was messed up.
i’m not so worried about this particular model as much as i’d like to know how to fix it in 3.1. obviously there were many changes between 3.0 and 3.1 and considering this works if i take it back into 3.0 something went wrong in 3.1 and i wanted to make you aware for the next update.

i’ve not had any problems with zsphere symmetry as you describe. however i use the resym buttons very often whenever i model, from lowest levels up. thanks.

Thanks for that additional model.

For my first several extractions that I tried, there were no problems with the availability of Smart ReSym. It wasn’t until I tried an extraction where the edge points where not masked that I ran into a problem. From that point forward, no extracted mesh would allow use of either ReSym.

I’ll forward this to the development team so that they’re aware of it.

good to know about the edge points masking for next time. thanks again

Never mind. Although x symettry is screwed up, I turned on Z symettry and it is working like x would normally.
