Sword guard detail

Hi all, I’m currently working on a sword. I have the basic shape down but want to add more detail.
im going to start with the guard, nice easy shape to start.
is there a way to add a guide for the engraving? I have been working on an engraving design on paper, nothing too complicated just some Sakura flowers.
Is it possible (once I scan the sketch) to place that image on my sword guard then trace the design so to speak?

Not exactly the answer to your question, but you can also use the “see-through” slider bar on the top right to toggle ZB’s opacity. Just open the pic on an image viewer before maximizing ZB, and lower ZB’s opacity using the “see-through”. That way you can overlay your model over the pic and use it as a guide.

There’s a proper way to do exactly as you want (place the image over your sword guard as a guide), using projection painting in Spotlight. I haven’t had a chance to try it out since I work mostly on 3d-printable models (which is a more dignified way of saying, “I have no idea how to do it”), but basically, you can indeed paint your image onto the model itself using Spotlight. I’d better leave it to the experts to instruct you on how to do so.

Hope this helps some.

Thanks for the info Sky, will try and find more info on that projection spotlight you mentioned :+1:

Glad to help!
