Surface Noise doesn't appear (answered)

Hello,

I’m gonna make surface noise appears on my mesh so I checked Noise in Surface tool menu, but nothing appears.

This thing happens very often, no matter how the mesh started (from base mesh from an external application, ZSpheres, ZSketch etc); I don’t know what’s wrong and what to do.

The mesh in the attached image already has UVs, but seems it doesn’t matter.

Does anyone know the way to solve this?
ZBrush version is ZBrush 4 for OSX and my computer is Mac mini with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4GB DDR3 memory.

Sorry for my poor English and thanks in advance.

Make sure you don’t have any masking. Clear any mask from the Tools / Masking palette

Hi Richard, thanks for the reply.

I checked if I had masking on my mesh, but I had no mask.

I also tried click Apply to Mesh button in Surface Menu and it worked perfectly; surface noise appeared all around the mesh.

Surface noise doesn’t appear before I attach it to mesh. :frowning:

It may simply be that the noise is too small to show. Try adjusting the Strength/Scale sliders. (The result will always be increased using Apply To Mesh because that displaces the geometry whereas before it is simply a bump effect.)

Further thing I hadn’t known about: you must have Quick 3D Edit turned ON in the Transform menu!

I changed these values to see what happens, but still no noise on my mesh…

I also checked the preview because I thought it may a problem comes from its scale and found the result appears in preview without a problem.

Also, Quick 3D Edit in the Transform menu is already turned on.

Then I don’t know what to suggest, except a restart to see if that makes any difference.

Relaunch doesn’t change anything…

But I found something.
After launching ZBrush, first I load a Sphere3D into the scene, Made it a PolyMesh3D, and then load the mesh that I want surface noise appear on it.
When this is done, surface noise appears on my mesh with no problems.

I successfully found a solution, but still don’t know why this happens.

So sorry that I troubled you a lot and thanks so much.

That’s interesting… glad you found a solution.
