Super Sculpy/Skin Material

I’ve been working on this skin type material on and off for a couple months now and realized that when ZB comes out, there will probably be even better materials on their way. I’ve been wanting to upload it for a while, but I keep trying to refine it more. I’m still tweaking it here and there, but this is what I have so far.

The first image is with a texture map, the second is without. The texture will appear better if you reduce the colorize diffuse a bit in the 4th channel of the material.

Here’s the material and light setup I used.

I hope some of you get some use out of it before the ZB3 wave hits! :laughing:

The material is nice. It looks like a flat color material tweaked (without light) and is quite different from other skin materials I have used. It looks good, but without the antialising supersample set higher and no base color fill for the object, the material seems a bit too noisy.

It looks noisy because the light aperture is 130 and the number of rays isn’t high enough for smoothing. I set the aperture to 70 for this image and kept the number of rays the same which helped reduce the noise. I also repositioned the light a little.

One thing with this material… If you reduce the light aperture to less than 70-60 then you need to adjust the intensity curve for the light. The left side of the curve should move down as the aperture gets smaller otherwise the material will not have a smooth transition into the shadow side of the face. You’ll need to test to find the best combination of aperture and curve settings.

It looks pretty smooth with only changing the base color to a pinkish skin color, setting the antialising super sample to 4, sample size to about 4, edge to 30 and ofcourse in best render with shadows on. Give it a try.

I knew I forgot something! Those are your eye textures, slosh! I just used a different material. :lol: It’s actually a variation of the supersculpy mat just with less colorize diffuse and more specularity.

I’m laughing my a** off! I didn’t even recognize the eyes. That is so funny.
