How about doing a “project by Zremesher”? A button that, after making Zremesher, would try to bring the details of the mesh before using Zremesher. Is it possible to do this with Zscript? It remains as a suggestion for Pixologic.
One thing you could try is just to subdivide the model a few times first, then freeze subdivision levels and run zremesher. Once you unfreeze it will subdivide the new topology and project the old results onto it. This should be able to exist in a macro script easily enough.
