Suggestion to developers

I can’t believe I have to post this. Zbrush Is now such an old software and still Devs never thought of arranging their UI

So it’s a friendly reminder to any devs who read this. Zbrush Interface and design is a mess.
Software are supposed to be user friendly, especially when this old. I’m not a new user who is frustrated by it, i alrdy customized the UI enough to get my things done.
BUT as a designer in 2017 seeing the “unique” way of zbrush doing things, it’s plain stupid. (no it’s not cool anymore)
Having all these cool features and technologies popping out each update and the UI is so non friendly

As I use a lot of softwares. Each time I leave zbrush for a period, I have to go back to my personal notes , read them and tell myself :
In zbrush you don’t do things like the rest of the world, it’s more complex, that tool or option you’re looking for is hidden somewhere between some weird list. I can’t even scale a 3D object without relearning how to scale.

Please hire a UI designer !

Many of us just customize our interfaces and get on with things.

I can’t believe you felt the need to do it either.

I have to do it because as a designer, I can’t stand seeing bad design

And it’s shoved up to the beginners and tell them : that’s the way to do it if you wanna learn zbrush.

Zbrush is now such an industry standard that no beginners would dare to critic. I see tons of students called lazy and being frustrated by the software supposed to make them like 3D (It’s like sculpting on clay, it’s artistic ! )
But I know these are half lies, coz even if the sculpting experience is there it’s ruined by a weird complex workflow and weird naming.

Artists are intuitive people, they do great art when they flow of thoughts isn’t interrupted ( have to fetch a mysterious button stuck under piles of lists. )

It’s counter productive, it’s regression !

Microsoft Office did a full interface redesign, even if it’s an industry standard.

I see Zbrush including many cool features which propably required tons of programming genius and still, didn’t think of optimizing their interface so anyone doing 3D can switch to it, do his thing and keep working.

The best design is the one letting you quickly grasp how things works, not the one telling you, if you wanna be in the club you gotta go through this baptism of frustration.

Interesting

this link talks about displaying data and text (from the green monochrome monitors era)
which is great for displaying data and text infos.

Do you think this apply to graphic softwares in 2017 ?

How can we enhance the Tranpose tool according to this document

why display an arrow when you can display a circle to move your object (called subtool in zbrush)

So intuitive, circles !

why you move your cursor toward the direction you want to scale to, better move it 90° degrees

Which version of ZBrush are you using?

IMHO; Pixologic has done an awesome job!!! :+1: :+1:
