Subtools causing an Internal Error.

Hello.
I’ve been working with Zbrush 3.1 for awhile now and I’m coming across a problem while using subtools now that I’ve never had.
I use Zbrush for Second Life, and as such, I have to use a premade sphere that will work with wings3d to export a sculpt map for use in Second Life. Anyway, I have read tons of tutorials about working with subtools to create more than one piece to my works and it has always worked fine until today.
Today, each time I try to work with a new subtool in my set, I get this message:

INTERNAL ERROR .\list.cpp Line:143
Locked main mem in list-out
Object:

Please email use at [email protected] with the information you see in this dialog. Click ‘OK’ to exit Zbrush or ‘Cancel’ to continue.

(pressing ok of course causes me to exit Zbrush and hitting Cancel actually just ends up crashing Zbrush)

Let me explain completely what I’m doing. I have a two part boot and I want to add a top to it. I append a new sphere (the premade one that I have loaded in my tools) in the subtool menu. Next, I select the new sphere on my subtool menu so it is the one being editted, and next I drop down to the Deformation menu to use the Offset on the Y axis so I can move my sphere down in a straight line. This is where I get the message, just after I’ve moved the Offset slider in the deformation menu to move my newly appended sphere. I don’t see why this should be happening.
I see it says to email pixologic, which I’m fully willing to do, but I don’t see why trying to move the shape should be a problem I need to email pixologic over (they must be busy!!) and I was honestly hoping someone could easily tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’ve used this many subtools in a set with no errors before, but I’ve never tried to use the deformation drop down items on the subtools until today. Are the deformation menu inputs not able to be used on subtools? What’s odd is that when I appended my FIRST subtool of this set, I was able to move it using the offset under deformation, the very thing that is crashing now.
Is there another way to move my pieces in a straight line on the Y axis? The only other way I’ve found is by holding down shift while in move mode, but that only moves it left to right, not up and down. I NEED my tools to stay alligned to eachother.

I’m going ahead and emailing support on this issue, but I’m still looking for a workaround for my problem if anyone can help.

Try restarting your system and then loading the model. If it still won’t load, your model has become corrupted.

I recommend that you use SubTool master when you work with models that have SubTools – including using its save feature. This was written specifically to help avoid corrupted tools.

Hi,

Very same problem for me, same message, same lines, same crash.

I am very newbie and follow the french CDForma tutorial, and at this point, we only use very simple mesh, made fom primitive cylinder and gear, so i don’t think this comes from corrupt model.

Tried to reset, restart, even reinstall completly, nothing does.

The solution is to give each subtool a little touch of brush just after appending, (doing it for the master tool too (the one things are appended to)just after first append), and then to cancel. You can now use any deformation on your subtools. Well it worked for me.
I found this in a forum today but i can’t even remember whish one… thanks to the clever one.

But i’d really like pixologic to find out what this “looks like a bug” is…
Not mentionning the multimapper tool, it doesn’t crash the soft, it just doesn’t work at all. oups i mentionned it.

Hope it helps, and hope it is clear, english is not my native language.
