Subtool locked

Hi, I currently have 2 questions or issues with my project.

The first is that the subtool I’m working on has locked somehow. And the shape I was dynameshing appears on the background of the 3d viewer. And I can’t neither rotate the body of my sculpture nor the background sculpture dissapears.

The second is more a question about how to dynamesh objects which are very close without creating “artifacts” that fill the gaps between them.

Thank you!

Here the image of how the foot of the cherub I’m sculpting shows in the background at the same time as the model/subtool.

This is actually a feature in the full version of ZBrush that occasionally gets triggered by accident in Core!

It’s easy to fix:

  1. Save your project file so you have a back up.
  2. With your model selected in the Tool palette, press the Copy Tool button at the top of the palette.
  3. Open a different project through Lightbox, such as the Cube.ZPR.
  4. Press the Paste Tool button at the top of the Tool palette.

Your model will be pasted into the project and should now work as expected. Save the project with a new name. If your original project had other models which you need to work with, repeat the process so that they are all in the new project.

In answer to your Dynamesh question:

Dynamesh works by examining how the mesh fits into a cube filled with a lot of tiny cubes. If the mesh has features which are smaller than the size of the tiny cubes you can get the joins you describe. The solution is to use a higher resolution for Dynamesh so that the cubes are smaller.

Thank you Marcus, that solved the issue with the subtool.

After dynameshing 3 times with max resolution, max subdivisions and with the help of move topology brush I started to see the results I was working on :D.
