SubTool Colorizing / Multiple Materials

Q1–How do you change the materials for one subtool only? My sword has 3 parts (doing the tutorial) the handle, guard, and sword. Even with just the handle selected in SubTools and the other two subtools turned off, they all change to (for example) Blinn. Do I have to mask/invert the handle?

Q2— When using Colorize, (and MRGB) do the colors only show up when the brushes (Colorize) are on? That’s how it’s working for me.

Q3—What do those round circles do that are in SubTools? (The ones by the Colorize brush) I read somewhere they are Boolean operations, which don’t mean anything to me at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

  1. Click M and with a subtool selected, click Fill Object and it will fill with material. Unfilled subtools will look like the same material, until you also fill them with a material. Once all subtools have been filled with material, they won’t change appearance unless you Fill Object with another material.

  2. The little brush icon toggles the colour visibility on and off.

  3. They add and subtract from a mesh, similar to Boolean.
