subdivide question for 4r6 zbrush

I want to know how to keep my brush from making my sculpt go down in subdivision . i hope im explaining this right. So say my models is subdivided by 4. But when i start to sculpt on it my brush keeps breaking it down to a lower sub. How can i fix this? ty in advance!

So, you have 4 levels. What level is active? You should normally pull and push points at the lower levels until you have no points there to shift for your form and then jump to next higher. Screens shot would help. Enable PolyFrame so you can see your mesh. What brush and stroke type are you using? Link below my post to docs.

no brush will lower your subD level. That is a manual operation handled in the geometry panel, or short cuts (also subtool master can do some stuff).

Are you talking about while you’re rotating around your model it is lowering the subD level? This is an option that can be turned off in the preferences…it’s either, mem, or draw…might be somewhere else as well, but I’m pretty sure it is draw off hand.

Ty!
