subD level 1 as original ?

ya import a mesh in to zBrush sud divide the mesh up to 5 but when ya go back to sub divide 1.
zBrush does not go back to the original shape.
the mesh is smother.zBrush has smooth out level 1 some not a lot but a bit.

I’ve been doing a lot of 2D
I’m currently using zBrush 4R6 but I’m fixing to get 7.

how do ya get 4R6,4R7 to have level 1 as the original shape ?

thanks a lot

This is something that has always bugged me about ZB. I wish they would change it, or at least make it an option. If you want to go back to your original, you can reimport at level 1, or when you import first, create a morph target.

Store a morph target. That’s what it’s for. Some shift in form is unavoidable as you subdivide. If you don’t restore the original base you could run into some imperfections in certain aspects of map generation. The “cage” function can be used to approximate the original form, but it would be better to restore the original.

Also, Zbrush 4r7 is a free upgrade to registered users. There’s little reason to use an obsolete program version.

Well, that’s one of its uses.

I disagree that a change in form is unavoidable. Light wave avoides it just fine.

Yeah, I dont care. I’m instructing on the use of this program not another. What you believe is or isn’t possible based on some other tool with entirely different ways of doing things isn’t relevant here. I’m trying to help people answer their questions about Zbrush, and in Zbrush it is unavoidable.
