Sub-tool not Polypainting (others are), help!

Hey guys, this is probably some silly little solution, but I cannot figure it out. I have a tool and I can paint any of the subtotals with ease, except one! I’ve checked settings between each subtotal to make sure one does’t have something checked differently. here’s a few details:

  • subtools have been filled with a material and color with no problem
  • Brush is on rgb 100% intensity, it paints all my subtotals except one problem subtool
  • colorize is on
  • The problem subtotal has a few subD levels, at 22.68 mil polys.

Thanks!

I’m not a tech person, but if one subtool, amongst the others, has almost 23 mil polys, you might be having memory issues preventing ZBrush from working right. What I would do is, export the subtool alone as a separate mesh/model, then import it alone and try polypaint it.

  1. Is there a texture map on the subtool? This will hide any polypaint.
  2. Is the subtool masked? Check by pressing Tool>Masking>Clear.

Thank you both for your response,

Masks are cleared, and no texture map exists - everything is greyed out.

With the memory, I tried this suggestion, and still nothing.

I’m able to paint other subtools within that tool, even if the problem subtool is on. That seems to me that it should rule out a memory issue. I also tried taking that tool, copying it, dropping it to lowest subD layer, deleting the upper, and try painting with no success.

Ah! you got it. I had a texture image selected, a white box. It was throwing everything off. That’s what I hate about programs, I spend half a day just trying to figure out what silly setting missed of forgot to check off. thanks guys!
