Sub-D Low Poly Spider (Wings3D)

I am sooo proud. My new pet!
I found awesome reference material on anatomy and what not. I spent one and a half hours of surfing and printing. I then started sketching some loops over the anatomy to get an idea of what primitive to start with. It helped tons.

Here is what I have to show for it. I have to say I REALLY suprized myself. I had done it all in 2 minutes shy of 3 hours. Bustin hardcore ass in Wings3D.

I might have one too many segments in the legs…but its a really easy fix.

Here is an avi for anyone interested. It is the model rotating with closeups, lowpoly wire and smoothing. I think it is 3ivx but I am not sure. If there are any problems with downloading or playback, please let me know so I can amend the problem ASAP. Let me know of connection speed problems as well please. AVI file is 11mb.

Right Click to Save as.

Finally, I REALLY have to thank you guys @ CGtalk for starting this. I was able to find the creativity and passion to challenge myself and I did it. Boy am I ready for the next one session.

Peace.

MTB: thank you for that avi (still downloading  )!! You know, starting up wings I experience something that does happen - for me - otherwise only in Dogwaffle: I have absolutely NO plan what to do, and start sketching >> gettin nearly ALWAYS results that I have not to consider garbage!!
What more can a piece of software do, then to allow you that much freedom!!

Btw: your spider >>> awesome, I like it a lot!!! :+1: :+1: :+1:

Hi MtB
No problem with your Animation
Loading at 60 Ko/ second
And reading it with Real player One!
There is no format more compressed ?
That’s Works fine!

Cool Model of arachnid
Why have you don’t use Zbrush for this sort of thing ?
And the script gives the animation and the entiere conception of the creation in a very small format file
Have happy modelize!
Pilou

This is one scary thing but very cool, exellent.

Outstanding modeling Mtb, and at lowest possible poly count. You are a wing master! :+1:

Thanks for the comments everyone.

zerebrush - I have to agree about wings3D. Its is an amazing little program. I am glad its free and even more glad that I understand and use it well enough now…you don’t know how long I have been dreaming to make lowpoly/efficent models for game/animation. Even when I smoooht this guy, he’s only @ 7000 polys.

Frenchy - There are some things that can be done well in wings and others that can be done well in ZBrush. There are several reason why I decided to use wings over ZBrush. One is speed in relation with my personal knowledge of program functionality to actual results. Others are personal opinions and choices partaining to functionality. Oh yeah, I could have done it in Zbrush…but the two would look COMPLETELY different in structure and poly count. Don’t get me wrong though…I still love ZBrush.

Jimking - Scary!? I think he’s cute.

matvara - You’re too kind. I don’t consider myself a master at all. There is still too much I don’t use or even use well in Wings3D. I was all in well planning.

Once again, thanks everyone.
This critter is just drooling to take a slow long walk in the new ZBrush.

 Must be a tough one then!!Down here spieders (besides the nasty, hairy ones) don’t make it through the winter   !!

He is a desert critter like me.

I am redoing the legs. I am going to create three different types of appendages. The main legs, longer back legs, and the pedipalps(mouth feeders/antennae). I am using all axis and the virtual mirror function then bridging everthing back on. I also need to tweak where the face and chelicerae (jaws)meet. Eveything is going to be smoothed once to allow more detail though he should not go past 8400 polys when I am done.

Well, you said it all, in a nutshell. Planing
is everything when it comes to Wings and alike,
good planing that is.
BTW, those jointed legs are very attractive
candidates for some bones structure, so you
could easily make a perfect walk cycle!
Thanks for sharing your Wings experience!
:+1:

MTB: never had a critter for desert  (strange habits in El Paso  ), but like matvara said: will you bone this?? And if so where? Would be nice to know your software of choice for this job!!

Desert not Dessert…as in Sahara…Mohave…sand dunes…lol.
MMMMMM Spider a La Mode. :stuck_out_tongue:
Not too sure about animation yet. I have the ability to rig him in Cinema 4D but I am in the process of commiting to learning a software package vital to my future. Problem is I am not too sure which…most likely lightwave. I don’t think many businesses use Cinema compared to Lightwave.

Just curious, have you considered learning the maya PLE or softimage free ver? There are many more businesses using those than c4d and lightwave combined.

I sure have though about it. :+1:

Here is an update everyone.

Why not leave it this way, as an albino?? Looks good! :+1: :+1:

She has not fur ? This mygalus tarentula
Unbeared creature, seems like a japan robot
Or ivory statue
Have happy modeling!
Pilou

you’ve done a great work, I especially like the few polygones used that’s the way it must be done. :grimacing: :grimacing: :+1:

AWESOME WORK!!! :grimacing: :+1:
