Stroke Palette greyed out while using Insert Brushes

Hi guys,

I’'ve been learning insert mesh curve brushes, and it’s kind of frustrating because the Stroke Palette totally greyed out while using any of the Insert Brush and I don’t know why? I’ve tried InsertSphere, InsertCube and InsertCylinder brushes, all greyed out the Stroke Palette. :confused:small_orange_diamond:confused:small_orange_diamond:confused:
This seems to be a new issue with ZBrush2018 because I also tried those Insert brushes on 4R7 with no problem. But my new project is using ZBrush2018 and I think I’d better stick to the newer version.
Anyone had the same experiences or knows how to fix it?

Thanks!

The Stroke types are grayed out in 2018 because they don’t actually do anything. These brush types use the Curve settings that are found in the Stroke palette. They ignore the Stroke type entirely.

In 4R7 you could change between types (like Drag, DragRect) but it didn’t change the effect of the brush at all. That was therefore removed in ZBrush 2018 in order to help avoid confusion. If you expand the Stroke >> Curve and other subpalettes, you should have options available to you so long as Curve Mode is active.

Thank you very much for your input! That explains everything! Thank you!

Talking of expanding palettes - 4R7 used to use “Shift” key to expand more than one palettes at a time. It seems that “Shift” key no longer works with ZBrush2018 for the same trick, and I haven’t figured out if there is any other hotkey/hotkey combinations for that? May I ask if you know?

If you have “One Open Subpalette” enabled in “Preferences > Interface > Palettes”, then holding Shift key will open other Subpalettes. If you are referring to Palettes that you might have docked in one of the side trays, then turning off “Left Tray” and/or “Right Tray” (Auto Collapse) in “Preferences > Interface > Palettes” will allow you to open more than one palette at a time.

This is fantastic! You saved me! Thanks a lot zber2!!

No problem! :+1:
