"Stripe" artifacts in exported maps - any ideas?

Hey guys!

I wonder if anyone could shed a little light on this. I’ve been doing some export tests from Zbrush, and keep getting a mysterious artifact that takes the form of a single horizontal line of pixels in most of the maps. I’m posting two examples from the diffuse and cavity maps. Sometimes the normal map is clean, but it generally appears in the same place throughout most of the maps.

I’ve searched all over, but have found no info on this. I tried to export from Zbrush on another machine, but got the same result.

Some info on the models:

Originally modeled in Softimage
UV Unwrapped using Softimage’s “Unfold”

Anyway, I keep getting this on various models, and it’s become a real hassle. In the beginning I’d just paint it out, but I can’t do that accurately for each map, not to mention it takes for ever.

Any help would be really useful!

Thanks!

It’s likely that your UVs extend right to the edge, or even over, the UV space. This will cause ZBrush to wrap the points and a line can appear across the map where the UVs overlap. You can check this easily by pressing Tool>Texture Map>New From UV Check. Any overlapping will appear red. If this is the case, scale your UVs down a touch so that they fit inside the UV space.

Thanks so much Markus!

Yes, That appears to be the problem. It seems that the Softimage Unfold operator aligns the UVs right up to the edge by default.
