Strange issue with uvs. Normal map is warped, texture map is fine.

Hello.

I exported a normal map to be applied on a lower resolution model in an external program (maya)
Everything is fine except the area around the eye sockets. The normal map has been exported without smoothing uvs, and it’s mostly fine, but the area around the eye sockets (The only holes in the geometry) has had it’s uvs smoothed so the normal map does not match up with the eyes.

The texture map is fine. no problems with the uvs there. just the eyes on the normal map are the problem.

Is this a problem caused by having holes in my geometry?

Fig1- the problem. the normal map does not match the original uv
Fig2- all other parts of the normal map match the original uv
fig3- I thought it might be because inner-holes in the uv map didn’t count as an outline, but even the inner parts on other bits of geometry are fine.

you have an actual hole in your geometry at the eyes I am assuming.
You need to use tool.geometry.ReUV to fix the problem.
