Is there anybody out there exporting out of zbrush and into MAX 5.1 correctly… if so can you please post steps in doing so… THE OBJTOMAX plugin doesnt work in version 5.1 however i did locate a plugin that does now i need help exporting objects into max from zbrush… also what are the steps of importing the tiled texture… please help me… im going nuts
I’m using 4.2,so Ihope this helps. In the inventory rollout in z before you export the
obj.file turn off grp and make sure the scale is 1.Two files will export automatically, the mesh and the tiled texture
as a bmp.In max import the mesh and in the
material editor assign the bmp. to the diffuse channel.Make sure the “show map in
viewport” button is pushed.Let me know if this works

Hi JJ.
I’m not sure what you mean?! Are you using the Habware plugin, or the one by Discreet, which, as I recall didn’t import any UV-cordinates with the model, (but I only played with it for five minutes).
Why not stick with the Habware plugin?
Could you point me in the direction of where to download the plugin you are using and I’ll try it out.
Upham
thanks upham for your help… ive tryed using the hubware plugin with max 5.1 and it didnt work. heres where you can go to get a working object importer plugin,…http://www.3d-station.com/ressource/impexp.php
if you get errors running this site,… let me know and ill send you the plugin directly or ill post it here if i can. thanks for your help… i really cant wait to figure this one out…
Hi JJ
Well I’ve had a play with the Discreet OBJ import plugin again and have had no luck. It doesnt give you the option to import the UV cordinates with your model, making it pretty useless - much like a DXF model.
If you are dead keen on the Discreet OBJ plugin you would have to make your model in ZBrush import the model into Max, and use the UNWRAP modifier on it then export it from Max & import it back into ZBrush to TextureMaster it. I’ve also tried this but haven’t had any luck as the UV-cords get all screwed up somewhere.
Have you tried Deep Exploration as a third party translator between obj and 3ds. You can download a fully working 30 demo of it!
I’d be really keen to know a little more about what problems you are having with the Habware plugin. I’ve had 100% sucess with it so far. If you give me some more details, we might be able to solve your problems. Could you post an example picture? Are you 100% sure you have the correct habware version?

upham im sure… the hubware plugin doesnt work for me… the only version out there that i know of is 3.1,… but it seems like this plugin doesnt work with max version 5.1. and me thinks your correct about the discreet plugin not importing uv cords… because everybody else can import them…
ive tryed over and over to use the obj2max plugin and each time ive had no luck… thank you so much for helping me with this… i sure hope we can figure this one out… its driving me crazy…
Hi JJ
I need to know what is not working. What steps you are taking, and what is the result is in Max. Is it the Map not importing, or is it not lining up on the model? Is the model distorted or the normals flipped?
I’m using the Habware 3.1 plugin with Max 5.1 also.
Gimme the guts!

i think i may have gotten it upham. i re downloaded the plugin over rided the one i had, and now it works just fine… i havent gone through your tut completely but will tomorrow. im thinking that i had a bum copy of the plugin when i first downloaded it and thats why nothing was working right… thank god… now i can relax hehe… thanks again… ps… i might ask some more questions when ive had time to try it tomorrow if thats ok…
Sweet!

Keep me in touch!
Upham
I have the latest max 5.1 and still use the habware plugins.

With a little playing around, I can bring the OBJ’s in with correct texture coords, crooect scale etc into max. I then unwrap the material into something a little more editable.
