Each time I try to use stencil I have strong aliasing problems to the point it is not worth. Is this normal?
For example here using alpha 41 included in Zbrush as stencil and a dragrec. Normally this would be perfectly smooth using it as a normal Alpha. The mesh has plenty of polygons and the aliasing is not created by them.
Stencils are rather outdated I’m afraid. They are really a legacy feature from when ZBrush was used much more for illustration. I imagine they are based on 8 bits per channel and that’s why you are seeing the stair-stepping. You’ll be much better off using the MaskRect brush with an alpha.
Thanks for the response. It is a pity because the tool has some functionality that is useful, as it can act as masks for other masks and the warp feature.
Yes, I can see it would be useful.
